As many of you will have no doubt noticed MHF is suffering growing pains once more with peak time performance really taking a hit as 100s/1000s of users try and use the site all at once so I am looking at a few upgrade paths, one of which would be multi tier i.e. for the techies splitting out the database onto one server and the webserver front end onto another.
Another alternate upgrade path involves removing the gui front end we use for administering the server (ease of use / reporting / stats etc) and instead run it as a base build dedicated to database / webserver work
I think our standard methodology of buy bigger server is no longer a reasonable approach as the servers are getting more expensive and performance gains are lessening due to other factors.
Will keep you updated, just want you to know I am aware of peak time slowdowns
I'm hearing all sorts of stuff from my Ian about the "cloud" and how the company he works for (EMC) are going all out for it. It doesn't mean a lot to me, is it a viable route to use cloud computing for the servers?

As far as I know, the only motorhoming Oxford United supporter in Bognor.
I've tried text highlighting and translating - but it came up as language unrecognised, my computer doesn't speak star trek can i suggest when 'removing your gui front' you keep a safe distance and wear protection
