I wonder if anyone can help with a problem I have with a recently acquired camera. I have been using the camera for several months and have taken 200+ photos. I hadn't realised that the camera was set to 'highest quality photos' which has produced massive files which most of my home/work computers struggle to open because they are too big.
I have found some free software which can reduce the individual file size - but they have to be done photo by photo. Does anyone know of any software (hopefully free) where I can do a bulk reduction?

Hi Andy

What computer are you on? PC or Mac?

Try searching for "batch resizing" - there's a few programs on there which might help.

On Mac, I use iResize for batch work.

Gerald

I use Irfanview for working with images. This is an excellent free piece of software downloadable from http://www.irfanview.com/
This has a batch resizing facility which I have successfully used several times.

Microsoft provide a windows plugin for this - no need to install an 'application'.

Windows 7: http://imageresizer.codeplex.com/

Windows XP/Vista: Click 'Power Toys' tab and choose 'Image Resizer' http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/windows-xp

Right click image(s), click resize, select size.

By default will create new smaller images eg IMG-123 (Large).jpg but will over write originals if you explicitly ask it to.

If you want to go a bit further than the earlier (excellent) suggestions and get a first class image editor into the bargain, Photoshop Elements can do batch adjustments. Not free, but Elements is fairly cheap at around £70 compared with the full professional version of Photoshop at something like £600 and it does all that a keen amateur photographer would want.

Many thanks for all the replies - I tried Irfanview and am delighted with the results - took a couple of minutes to do all 283 photos (would have taken hours to have done them idividually!!). Again, many thanks.

I have been trying to find an easy way to do this for ages (being not very technically minded). have just tried Irfanview - brilliant.

Saves having to wait for ever when sending photos by e mail.

Hi,

I have used PIXresizer for batch processing for a number of years. It is free and is available from http://bluefive.pair.com/

Thanks Ian and Suzy. Hope you and the family are OK. Did not go to France this year.
