I think your engine will dictate what you need to do whether you are towing or not, just select the best gear for what you are doing, answers on here are probably not very helpful.

My motorhome is capable of doing 90 mph with a big Brian James trailer behind, but is not being used in that manner.
Another driver showed me what it could do on French motorway !
Did not know that a Rapido Randoneur 7090, had the capability to tow a "big Brian James trailer"
The 2.8 does pull well,, I regularly tow up to 2.8 tons on the back of mine, and the 850, at over 8M long and built on a 5.0 ton Iveco, is no lightweight or race car,, trundles along nicely on the cruise at 55/60 mph
