Well I can beat that using the Faculty X Antenna...
18km + - we were connected to Wifi in Corfu while on the beach in Greece! We had a choice of 8 or so hotspots, a hotel, tourist information office and marina were all unsecured and accessible.
Connection dropped during the day but in the evening we had a great connection. Again no idea what the broadcasting hardware was!
Hows the wildcamping going, theres some good spots along that coastline.
