Our problem is that although the built in Freeview signal and picture from the 26'' LCD TV is excellent, we are experiencing problems with the Freeview receiver that is connected to the analogue DVD recorder.
For example, BBC1 and BBC2 signals intermittently freeze every few seconds, whether being recorded or not. This doesn't happen with ITV, CH4, or CH5, on the same receiver.
The roof mounted digital aerial is connected directly to the external Freeview receiver, so we would like to think that it would be picking up the strongest signals first.
Any ideas please, as to why it's only BBC1 & BBC2 signals that are affected, and only on the external receiver?
Thanks in advance,
Jock & Rita.

GerryD is the lad for this query, but I read somewhere that the BBC are experimenting with their HD transmissions, which has been causing problems with some equipment. (I think it was only HD?)
Regrettably I didn't take much notice so can't offer any real help - but I bet Gerry will know.
Jock,
Possibly your signal is too strong into your digi box???? How far are you from the transmitter? You can check >here<
peedee
p.s. the BBC mux is the strongest of the lot so it very much sounds like you need to attenuate the signal. You can buy these from Maplins.

Waltham has just switched to high power digital so if you signal is from there and you didn't have any problems before switch over, too much signal is almost certainly your problem.

Thanks peedee, you are absolutely right , our signal is from Waltham (Melton Mowbray), and has been ever since we had the digital aerial fitted about 5 years ago, but we are not sure what you mean by "switching over".
I have tried looking for a "software upgrade", but that was fruitless, so I carried out a channel search, and have updated to the latest listings.
Cheers for now,
Jock.

Jock.
Until this month Watham transmitted a high power analogue signal and a weaker digital one. When they "switched over" the analogue was turned off and the power of the digital was very much increased.
Too much digital signal is as bad as not enough. In the motorhome I carry a 6db attenuator just in case it is required. So far I have not had to use it but I have had to turn the Status 330 amplifier to low gain on a couple of occasions.

Even before then, we were getting a cracking digital signal to both the TV and the external receiver, as we have had a digital roof aerial for several years now.
Our troubles have come about since the switchover, and the 12Db attenuator I bought today has made things worse, as when fitted, we have no BBC signals at all, but ITV is still good.
The signal bar for BBC1 was showing less than a third, before fitting the attenuator, and zilch after.
Cheers for now,
Jock.
P.S. Maybe I should rotate and retune the aerial into the Sandy transmitter.

Something not quite right there Jock. 12db is quite a lot but it should attenuate ALL the signals >The BBC< report no problems on this transmitter but I saw you are due for a retune on October 12th. If this is correct then perhaps they have not fully finished? No reason why you could not try Sandy. Waltham and Sandy require the same wideband aerial.

Thanks for the links Peedee. I have saved them for reading later .
The 12db attenuator will be going back, as I specifically requested a variable attenuator, (as advised by GerryD), but didn't know what I was getting at the time, thinking that it would adjust automatically. I didn't see your Maplins link until I came home from work.
For now though, things will have to wait until we come back from the Lincoln Show.
Thanks again Peedee.
Jock.
