thesimmokid here again! If you did decide to look elsewhere other than the UK for a vehicle then there are many dealers in Belgium and Germany who will help you sort out the right paperwork for importing a vehicle into Spain. One I spoke to in Germany (Durrwang in Dortmund) will also put it on export plates and insure the 'van for the journey back to Spain - for a cost, of course. Dicar in Belgium will also do the same. Language is not a problem with most of the people I visited or spoke to (certainly not in the Flemish speaking part of Belgium or Germany). Again, Google is your friend and comes up with all sorts of useful links/web addresses such as http://www.ivan.co.nz/MHGerman.htm
Hope this helps!
Thank you so much for this information. I have exhausting all the dealers in the surrounding area near Malaga (using a tank full of fuel) and ending up feeling very low. Dreadful examples seen, no wonder Spanish don't go into 'motor-caravanning' much! And SO expensive!!!
I am now planning a flight! We reckon we could get to like a Hymer, if the layout was right. Will keep in touch................
Hi Sekrab.
This is the only chap you need---Replate mate----(just google it). I am contemplating doing the same as you but with LHD.
I know it's a bit of a nightmare but this bloke will guide you all the way (thats how he makes his living). He is English by the way. I think there may be a 16% tax to pay but he will advise you better.
Welcome to the jungle. tuk-tuk.

Thanks for your link, but we have backed out of the deal in the UK now.
You will only be 'legal' if the habitation door opens to the left hand side as you look at the front of the 'van.....ie, the 'nearside' in Spain, we had a narrow escape from buying a LHD Autotrail Tracker, its cab opened to the right side.............unknown to us then of course! Apparently, the 'van will not pass its ITV (MOT in Spain) BEWARE!! And good luck!
Hi,
Just in process of buying our first MH.... Rapido 691.
Have been trying to source Insurance....not easy.
Abbeygate Insurance will quote, but high at about 850Euros but do not offer vehicle recovery !! so that is a no.They will do recovery on smaller vehicles but not mine..7.2 metres.
A broker in Javea has searched for me but my brand new MH does not appear on the Insurance list of vehicles and so cannot get me a quote. Surely this could only happen in Spain...when they do not keep model lists upto date.
At last l found Zalbu-Caldu,as mentioned earlier.
Very good and efficient, speak English and have quoted 670, with a 540 excess. Value of vehicle with extra's is 54,000 euros.
About as good as l think you will find in Spain.
For whatever reason the spanish do not like to cover motorhomes, hence the extensive searching.
Hope this might help anyone else trying to insure in Spain.

Hello Geoff,
Just picked up your message after so long! Having let the wounds of having to loose the afore said vehicle heal, we are picking ourselves up and starting all over again looking for a used motorhome.
We are going to try Germany next month ..........Durrwang-Morlein, a huge dealership in Dortmund, that we understand will also handle the import paperwork for Spain for us.
Thank you for the advice you have offered for the insurance company Zalba-Caldú, we will certainly use them when, and if we get sorted.
I hope you are enjoying motorhoming in Spain. Are you member of the Spanish group of Motor Caravanner?
I wonder just how many members of 'Motorhome Facts' and 'Motor Caravanner' don't actually own a 'van like us!! lol!http://www.motorhomefacts.com/modules/Forums/images/smiles/biggrin.gif

Be VERY carefull. The German dealer should insure the vehice so you can drive it to Spain ,make sure you get the cirtificate of conformity (for use in Spain). When you get it to Spain it will have to have an ITV & be replated & you will have to pay quite a lot of import duty. Your best bet is to have a word with one of the replating specialists. Replate-mate is a good English speaking one.
Best of luck. Tuk-tuk. Ed.

Hi Tuk-tuk,
Don't worry, if you have followed our (mis)fortunes of last year, you can imagine that we are not about to be duped again. We will research very thoroughly before jumping on a flight to Dortmund!
I will indeed take your advice and 'ave a word with Replate-mate before proceeding...............thanks!
