We wondered why we could not lock onto Astra at the weekend but could find Hellasat(internet). Crystop dish.

Call from the fitter(LCS leisure) yesterday morning, a few seconds to change the frequency setting and sorted.

Paul.

Hi Tony & Debbie,
I'm guessing you have already resolved the problem. Unfortunately, due to the volume of calls we have been receiving in respect of this issue, along with our day to day work commitments, it has not been possible for us to keep a track on this forum as we would normally have done. After seeing GerryD's comments (ouch!) I felt compelled to post something on this matter. We had very little warning of the changes on Astra 2 and do not keep a database of all our end customers as we only sell to trade customers so it would have been impossible to contact everybody directly. Can I just say that we deliberately did not publish details of the "fix" as this can only be accessed via a hidden service menu on the system intended for use by qualified technicians. It is possible do serious damage by changing other parameters in this menu which is why it is hidden. We do not approve of dealers publishing this information and can accept no liability for any damage resulting from such DIY fixes. Customers are more than welcome to contact us directly so that we can, hopefully, talk you through the fix. At least this way, if anything goes wrong, we can put it right before any damage is done. We are doing our utmost to resolve the issues and have already helped hundreds of customers satisfactorily.

Julian Preston,
Managing Director

Or you could go to one of the other companies for the software update at half the price of oyster sat tech . £47 for two minutes plugged into a laptop!

We have just had our version one Oyster box returned after up grading. We connected it back up and tried to search for any satellite. No luck,we spoke to Oyster and it appears the upgrade makes the dish move around faster and the LNB can`t lock on.Oysters idea is that we get a new LNB. Has anyone don this as a DIY job or is it a job for an expert.

The LNB is not difficult to change but two points. First make sure you know the skew setting, mark it somehow. I actually set my skew when in Spain working on the assumption that is worst case. It will be wrong elsewhere but as the signal is stronger it is OK. Also make sure you waterproof the connection (two if it is a dual LNB). Self amalgamating tape is good and as I have a boat I always have it handy!

Hi

I have a Oyster I & have been in contact with Oyster UK - mine can't be upgraded at they do not have a software upgrade for the older chip set a 103 but only for the 128 chip set.

Beware - from speaking to other traders it appears that the manufacturer Oyster in Germany did not want to upgrade any Oyster I's & wanted us all to buy a new Oyster II box at £700 however an upgrade program was released by mistake. It appears that all they have to do is change the transponder number in the software.

I have also been informed that this will be the last software upgrade they will do for any Oyster I's !!!

Apparently they tried this tactic with their German customers when they needed a software (firmware) upgrade for Astra 1 & they kicked up such a fuss that they relented & had to issue an upgrade.

Yes my system is 2003 - 8 years old but I feel they do not want to support the product any more. They basically have chosen not issue new software & expect everyone to buy new kit from them.

So all Oyster I owners be prepared.

Regards Captain Bligh

P.S. I previously worked for a German company that felt that they had a legal obligation to support any product under 10 years old & regularly repaired items 20 years old.

Hi there all
just a few words since my last post.
With regard to Captain Blighs comments concering the Mk1 Oyster Visions.
I have sympathy with the views about Mk1 Oysters being made obsolete by none support from the manufacturers after the current upgrade , however on the other side of the coin and to be fair and balanced about the whole thing the Mk2 is vastly improved in the technology used, and how long should a manufacturer support old technology ? these units were sold till 2006 and bearing in mind the cost at new, as an impartial opinion I would like to see more use than 6 years after having spent £2000. Further to our help in resolving the Issue with the Mk 2 units back in September ( Thanks by the way for the many messages of appreciation we have received , it makes our efforts worthwhile! ) We now have a solution to the Mk1 problem please see our web site for further explanation and help www.jacksonsuk.com
any members who need any advice on Oyster matters please ring us, or see us at most of the shows, we are always happy to help and nothing is too much trouble.

regards all and a happy new year
Robert Jackson

Oyster should support owners of older systems even though they are now selling different technology, as you rightly say 2006 to 2011(which is when this problem arose) is not long enough and it is only 5 years and not 6.

Hi there Paul

Totaly agree , which is why we have made a modification to the top box available, so as to extend the life of the system to the point where it it just packs up because of old age, and not because of the satellite broadcasters changing the frequencies.
details of our mod can be obtained via our web site. This mod is available to all whether the system was bought from us or not.

regards Robert Jackson
