Just bought another MH with a Phantom tracker fitted with the subscription paid until 2014, so 3 years left of a 5 year deal, you either pay for 1 or 5 years at a time. The dealer said just ring them up to transfer the cover over.

Rang them and we cannot do this Phantom said, you have to pay yourself. Ok i said, at least the other owner will be able to claim his refund, i will tell the dealer to inform them i said. No they cannot claim anything back Phantom said, its in the smallprint.

It maybe in the smallprint but doesnt seem fair at all, to put it mildly. They have it both ways.

By the way, i,m not blaming the dealer, he said what i expected would happen, silly me.

Paul.

Tell them you are the previous owner that you have moved house and provide them with a "new" contact number ??

I would also read the small priont VERY carefully, they could just be trying it on !!

Seems a bit of a nerve to me, I could accept an "admin feed" to change the details over but they have already got the money for the subscription, they are just trying to make aprofit out of someone elses sale.

Thanks, yes it does seem extraordinarily cheeky, someone has already paid for the subcription after all and he cannot even claim the remainder back. I rang them and was honest, saying we had just bought it so cannot now tell them anything else.

I will look at the paperwork which came with it, for the smallprint section.

There must be a way around this, although probably not now as i have already spoke to them.

It seems whichever way we turn every bleeder wants a slice of your money by whatever means.

Personally I wouldnt bother with a tracker. It DOESNT prevent your MH getting stolen, and it MIGHT help find it IF it is stolen.

With modern immobilisers etc it is VERY difficult to steal a vehicle. Something the size of a MH is going to need a VERY large truck to cart it away on, etc etc.

If they are determined to "have yours away" they will do so, and have the kit to locate/deactivate and tracking edevice !!!

Not many MH's get stolen, and if yours is would you REALLY want it back again ??????

Stop worrying about it and just enjoy your new purchase (its insured against theft anyway, and the policy excess is probably LESS than the tracker subscription Wink )

I take the view that the previous owner signed up for five years in his own name. Thinking he wanted five years he signed a five year contract. You can't buy things and ask for a refund if you later decide you don't want them any more.

It's a simple contract and not very costly. What he could have done was to have the tracker moved to another vehicle which he owned, that would have been fine.

It might be nice if Tracker allowed some sort of refund but I understand why they don't and it's common with all sorts of simple contracts, Alan.

Still think its not fair although you do get money off your insurance for having one, why cant you just pay an admin fee as Plodd said to transfer over.

Our van was 4 months old when we bought it and the previous owner had signed up to Phantom Tracker for 5 years, but not a moment of that was transferable to us.

It costs us extra, but I only renew on an annual basis.

Like Erneboy says, transferring the unit to a new vehicle is one option and would only incur a small admin fee.

I do wonder how much this actually happens, so the old contract has 4 years and 8 months to run and they are, in effect, been paid twice, seems a lovely little earner.

No wonder a 5 year deal works out much cheaper than a yearly subscription, trying to get everyone to take this out as they know a good percentage will flog the MH during this period.
