I've seen the results of a safe being removed from a wardrobe with a crowbar - the theifs smashed the whole unit to bits with a crow bar causing thousands of pounds worth of damage and ending a holiday.

Hi Adam

I'm not about to start an argument Wink but that's one reason why I wouldn't install a "proper" safe that looks (and is) very secure. It would make a thief think there's something really valuable inside. Rolling Eyes

We never carry anything worth very much, so would not want to encourage the sort of vandalism you describe. If a tealeaf is determined to pinch our stuff he will not need to tear the van apart to get at it . . . but it is (hopefully) sufficient to deter the opportunist!

Different story if you carry really valuable items, in which case you will obviously have an alternative approach to keeping them safe. Wink

Dave,

With all due respect, that makes no sense!

A safe is a safe... what's the point of having one if not to store valuables inside Laughing. I don't think theif's thought process goes as far as to think 'how safe is that safe, it doesn't look too safe, I'll leave it be...' I reckon he's going to have a crack at pulling it out anyway. It might even be empty!

If you are going to have a safe at all, my thoughts an under cab seat safe is going to be the hardest to extract or cause much damage in attempting to do so. Maybe just seat base plastics. The bracket you suggest might well just be sufficient - I just can't visualise it.

An insurance claim is going to increase your premiums for the 5 years you have to declare it for, so if you can fix a window out of your own pocket and all valuables are left secure then a 'proper' safe then it's worthwhile.
