I keep hearing that one of these 'boosters' will improve reception . . . any thoughts on which make & model is 'best' for general internet use whilst sitting in the van ?

I am using this one at the present moment on the boat in Poole Marina to connect to a free wifi spot I know about

Works well.

I do have the cheaper one which also works

Thanks Pete . . . but with the various models & drivers to choose from 1 Shocked
I sometimes take my laptop [which runs WinXP] & sometimes my smaller Asus palmsize "laptop" [which runs Linux] . . plus my iphone + my Kindle [not that the Kindle needs any extra as it works fine as it is] - do I assume that I'd need both thr WinXP & Linux drivers installed in the respective machines ? [you realise your talking to a WiFi dummy here Wink

Opps got to sign off now as the "boss" is calling . . .

Dunno I use them on my Acer Laptop, the repeatit was a pig to get working but I sorted it in the end!

The cheaper one I just plugged it in and it sorted itself out straightaway, they definately do pick up a lot more signals.

I have one of these and it considerably extends the range of wifi networks:

If you've got plenty of time on your hands try this thread:

http://www.motorhomefacts.com/ftoptitle-66595-long-range-wifi-aerials.html

I have faculty x and picks up many signals from up to 1km away. I've used it extensively at home and abroad. Simple to set up.

Oh I don't know Peter, I didn't think 11 miles was too bad a range with the Faculty X one Wink

Hi

Since I was (and still am!) sceptical about how often I could connect for free, I bought the cheapest available on Ebay, a tenner delivered from Hong Kong.

It works fine, but I've not often found networks available to use.

It has been good when we've been parked next to a network we've been given access to, at a campsite for instance, but not having to be parked too near to use it, going from an intermittant signal to full bars.
