I have both the Repeatit and the replacement Faculty X model and for me, both work about the same and equally as good. Thinking that the Repeatit would be better, I managed to buy one from a member on here but no better, although maybe the build quality is.
Both work on Windows 7 and I downloaded drivers for both.
You will certainly pick up and connect to more wi fi, but you won't be able to connect to all
Hope this helps.

Thanks folks, . . I bit the bullet & bought this make/model . . http://www.faculty-x.net/NET-WL-usb-cpe2512bg
I arrived today & on trying to install the CD, I got the following message - "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file, you may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item"

- I'm running Win XP [and logged on as administrator].
I finally DID manage to install the info from the CD by delving into the files on the CD itself . . .

Now, seeing as things change so quickly these days - should I be looking to update any [?] drivers etc ?
The model is :- RT257x [chipset RTL2571]
Utility Version = 3.0.3.0 [28/07/2009]
DLL version = 1.0.3.0 [28/07/2009]
Driver version = 3.1.7.0 [24/05/2009]
EEPROM version 1.4
Firmware version 2.2
(copied from the details on the CD files . . not that I know whether they are the most uptodate ones)

With this unit plugged in to my laptop - it seems to pick up a good few more WiFi spots than when unplugged but SHOULD I alter any of the settings to make it better or run more efficient ?
If so, I'd appreciate some feedback on what & how to do it Confused

Wouldn't harm in updating the drivers to the latest version if there are any. If you are running XP you could use Netstumbler to assist in fine tuning for hotspots.

I was thinking of getting one of those Vic.

Now I am concerned re problems you have had. The info says you just plug in to the USB, install driver, it scans for available wifi, done.
