As Peribro has rightly identified, the chirping of your current alarm, is an indication that the batteries are on their way out. This chirping should last for approximately 30 days.

You could "kill two birds with the one stone" here, by fitting a
Combined Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm, like this one or similar.
They can be ceiling mounted or wall mounted, close to the ceiling.

However, whatever you decide, please decide very soon. A smoke alarm/detector is an absolute must, in the interest of occupant safety.

HTH.

Regards,

Jock.

Any advice on where to position a combined smoke/CO detector? Various places I've read suggest CO detectors are best at the height you sleep whilst I guess smoke detectors are best on the ceiling.

Also would appreciate advice on where you would fit a smoke detector in a MH. The advice in most smoke detectors helps to choose the correct position in the rooms of a house...

So at the moment we have a CO detector that comes with a stand that we keep on a worksurface above the fridge and opposite the gas hob. Our gas powered Truma heater is under the fixed bed.

Hi there,

As good advice as any, re the CO detectors, can be found >>Here<<

Whilst the installation instructions of smoke detectors and CO detectors, normally refer to domestic dwellings, the advice is the same for MHs etc, even though the scale of the application may be much smaller.

Our former and current smoke detector, is fixed vertically close to the ceiling, just by the habitation door, about 10 -12ft away from the kitchen area. We've had one false alarm in seven years of owning the MH.

No disrespect to Jud, however, the very best advice I can pass on to you at this stage, is NEVER, NEVER remove the batteries due to the alarm being activated. Once known (and not before) that the alarm was triggered by cooking toast, etc, (ie, a false alarm), clear the alarm sensor in fresh air, and relocate to a more suitable location, then retest after re installation.

Our former and current CO detector sits on a shelf in the kitchen bar area, central to all sleeping areas (3). We've had no false alarms during the same period of ownership.

Don't forget to test your detectors/alarm regularly, vacuum the front facia ports regularly to clear dust particles, and try to use a memorable date for changing the batteries, such as an anniversary or birthday, even if the low power warning chirp hasn't begun to sound, (up to 30 days).

Stay safe, and best regards.

Jock.
