I just purchased an 18.5" slimline Avtex TV/DVD at the NEC yesterday. We watch Sky TV through AV leads and we were told the Avtex has no AV sockets so we would require a Scart to AV adapter, so we duly purchased this at the same time.
I Excitedly got back to the campsite with my new toy and sat down to rig it all into the vehicle.
Much to my frustration I soon discovered that the power supply for the Avtex connects via a 4 pin lead in a hard plastic fixing that is dog leg shaped and runs the power lead straight over the scart socket on the back of the TV.
This means you get two options connect a scart lead or connect the power lead, quite why I would wish to connect a scart lead to a TV with no power I don't know.
So be warned if you are going to purchase one of these TV's a normal scart to AV connecter will to work unless you like looking at a black screen.
A quick temp fix is to get a cheap scart cable and open the case up at one of the plug ends. There is normally a big plastic nut then you can unscrew then the shell case opens up. Once it's removed you will be left with the thin scart plug that you might be able to use. The problem with removing the nut and shell is that that provides the strain relief so without them you will need to be gentle with the cable.
We bought the Avtex 18.5DR at the NEC and it does have a HDMI. We don't have Sky however.
Very easy to set up in our case and the scart to freeview box from the old Beko TV is no longer needed. Just power to 12v and aerial and a very good picture.
I take it that you have contacted Avtex about this problem, they might well know about it and have a lead to supply customers who need it, or mabe they will make one up for you. give them a ring, but dont shout please.
There is a HDMI connection but we have standard definition Sky in the motorhome so the HDMI is no good.
I will give Avtex a ring and see what they suggest tomorrow, I got the TV Saturday so not much point ringing them over the weekend. I will be very interested in their explanation as to why they designed the power connector to cover the scart socket though!
I'm surprised the supplier at the NEC was not aware of this issue when they sold the TV and the adapter to me, so will be ringing them as well to see what they have to say.
Contact Avtex. They are very helpful people. I spent the extra bucks last year and certainly don't regret it.
