If television is a must and English ITV & BBC then the biggest dish you can carry. But this will still not give you coverage for all of Spain. Almeria/Mercia are areas that will require a dish to big for you to carry.

If you will watch what ever you can find then a 1.20m dish may give you a reasonable coverage. Combined with a free to air Sat receiver then you will all ways find something.

Domes dont reach as far as a larger dish. The difficult area is Between Benicassim and Adra in the south and the channels that are not possible are largly BBC 1 & 2 Itv1 is no problem with a sky box and freesat from sky card. Outside of the difficult area my 80cm dish gets everything I want . Now yes you can carry a larger dish but it will not provide miracles unless its 2.4metre in diameter which of course is far too big to carry . Many here have 1.9 metre dishes and dont get BBC news etc. So I would say get a 80cm dish and a sky box then set up properly you will get the same a most of us who have this setup and you have to be pleased with that. Or get a dome and accept that you will be slightly more limited. Note there is a way to view sport on BBC if you read my earlier post.

Last week we couldn't get sky in Surrey site, another motorhomer told us to change the channel 12.441, presto- back with full channels, would this have any effect in Spain or France or do you go on to Astra 1?

hi candkandb. when we had a dome fitted they told us that they only guarantee domes down to barcelona and they was right so our next van we had a 85cm dish and then you start to loose channels the further south you go if you want t.v you will have to take a 110cm dish plus with you and set it up manually or go on a site with piped t.v .jud

If you have a chat with pcandsatguy on this site John has all the technical experience with all the channels.... astra2 a,b,c and d carry all the uk programs so hence that was what ken was referring to.... and astra2d has a very narrow wave gide carrying bbc and itv channels, that focuses on the UK so spain is well out of the foot print and hence the need for very hi gain dishes larger than 800mm is the norm for spain and the alike..... hope that helps

RoadPro booklet gives you a very good idea as to what and where dishes will work.
I have a 60cm Multimo dish and can get Astra1 down to Andalucia. I do however sometimes struggle in the UK to get Astra2 with the Astra 1 signal always seeming to be so much stronger.
I think your problems may be mostly solved by learning German and French and just a smattering of Arabic, then your needs for Astra 2 will be that much less.

Alan
