As the forums are the main part of the site used and I am forever finding members who are unaware of aspects of the site I have enabled the left hand column to show in the forums.

I know there will be members out there who just want the forum to show (DABS / Frank etc) but I am thinking of the big picture, the site performance appears unaffected with the extra few database queries and I think the extra information available to new and old members alike will only be a positive thing.

I thing this new format is awful and feel that to impose it on us with no chance to get rid of it is unfair. I know all the other bits are available on the top bars if I want access to them. Please change it back or make it optional!

I am looking at the feasibility of adding an option in your profile to enable the column as there are lots of members who would benefit from the left hand column as well

I'm alright jack, as I've a large monitor 27". That said I don't like it either.
But I don't think this is a good idea for folk with smaller monitors/laptops/ipads etc.

How about a better/tidier hierarchical navigation device at the top instead?
And/or re-categorising the navs/sub navs at the top?

I don't think that is the way ahead, the problem is that in my experience users glance over a site and in the forums there is little information available apart from the text of the forums themselves.

There are many aspects of MHF that are very underutilised and from talking to members who visit us here / at shows it appears it is because they are totally unaware the facilities exist. This is a way of highlighting them

My two pennyworth:

When I open a page on the forum there are so many headers, and now siders, that I have to scroll down before I can see any of the post text which is being squeezed more and more.

And now, the thread posts extend beyond the bottom of the new side panel which leaves an odd looking screen.

Not an improvement - could do better - let's see Prototype II
