Hi all, We have recently bought a Ford Transit based Hymer Van 22. I have a question to all other Ford Transit based owners;-) Our van does not appear to have Central Locking!! I cannot even lock both cab doors by locking the drivers door! Is this a usual feature on the Transit Cab? Can Central Locking be switched on/off ? Any advice greatly appreciated....... Many thanks

You've not mentioned an age or model (mk6/7?)
Do you have a remote with the key? Is the cab basic, or does it have heated windscreen, elec mirrors etc?
Mk6 "non basic" model has remote central locking, and I'd *assume* all modern ish tranny based MH will be remote locking as the basic van is too basic to convert.
Have you read the manual? Explains how to lock/deadlock via the key? Though we never use the key....
My previous 2007 reg. Hymer 622 on a Transit chassis didn't have central locking.
Chassis was actually built 2006.
Wow. I'm stunned, but thanks for putting me straight.
Was the chassis and cab spec really basic then? I'd have thought remote central locking was the first thing to be included in any cab upgrade, and I'd have assume Hymer went for better quality than basic (?)
Sound like your answer is more accurate to the OP than mine.
I would say think yourself lucky that it doesn't have it, as it is something else just to go wrong.
Our previous MH didnt have it, Hymer 07 reg(2006 model) and not a problem whatsoever, our new one(04 hymer s class) has it and guess what, it is not working, probably wont bother getting it fixed as all doors lock/unlock manually.
A bit like electric drivers window, another stupid add on.
Might be repetitive but there was a top tip on here. If it has central locking and it's not been used for a while then the battery goes flat in the remote. You have to open it and start it with the spare then change keys and the ignition will charge the battery in the remote. That's assuming it's been idle. I read that on here last year and guess what? Within a month my remote battery went flat and remembered the tip.
We have a 58 reg. Transit based MH & it too doesn't have central locking. I thought this was a mistake but I looked up the build data on the Ford ETIS system & it was built with manual locking, despite having other toys like electric mirrors & windows, cruise control, trip computer etc. Quite why Roller Team ordered them like this is beyond me too, as even the most basic Transit commercial van you could buy at that time had central locking. The catalogue (from that time) makes no mention of manual locking even being available at all.
If you go on to the ETIS system you can obtain all the build details of your vehicle by inputting your VIN number. I found out about this system by looking on the Transit forum.

Exactly my experience.

Moving on
Ford Etis, is that the link mentioned on a Transit forum page? if so try this and see what shows up, maybe there was not any central locking from the factory on this chassis and year? see this link and enter the VIN or Reg No.
Maybe the Hymer Club and Hymer specialists would prove useful on this point and maybe for any future Hymer interests? Plenty of Hymer vans around it seems, is it more of an issue with Mk7 Transits I wonder?
