As I said I have been 'pondering' which has led me to considering a HUMAX PVR - 9150T from ARGOS.

However, I do have another question that all the 'pondering' hasn't given me a clear answer to. Will I be able to install it laying on its side? I understand that the various vents will have to be kept clear.

I'm pretty sure that some of you will know because you are likely to have faced that same space limitations as I am.

Once again, any advice / experience of this would be welcome.

Thanks

bill

If by its side you mean one of the long ends, then I can't see any reason why not. If however you mean lying it on its back or front side then I think that could be a problem as it might inhibit the cables to the back or block out the remote infra-red signals to the front.

Peribro - Thanks for the reply.

It would be on a side so the cables are towards the wall and the front in view to aim remote.

I've end up with an Hitachi which was a bit smaller than the Humax and cheaper. Done the right thing??? We'll see.

Freeview will work abroad, this is the system we have used for the last 3 years.

At the risk of being pedantic (again) "Freeview" will not work abroad unless you can pick up a UK "Freeview" transmitter as described by Ray.

"Freeview" is simply a proprietary name for the UK system of Digital Terrestrial Broadcasting and the associated EPG, same as "Freesat" is the specific name for the UK system of Digital Satellite Broadcasting - they are both trade names for particular broadcasting systems.

What you pick up abroad on a "Freeview" receiver is the free to air digital broadcasts from the transmitter you are receiving.

You can pick up Jersey Freeview virtually all of the west coast of Normandy down to Mt. St. Michel.
I'm sure some parts of Upper Normandy are within range of the UK Freeview signals.

Ray.

Certainly when Meridian East switches next year you would expect UK Freeview reception in Upper Normandy. In fact possibly right along the coast from there north to Northern Holland.
