I think it is true to say if you were pulled over by VOSA for a weight check they would use the actual loaded or laden weights to check legality and not GVW plates. The OPs question was, could his motorhome tow a Yaris? If you use GVWs and it is within the GTW then the answer is almost certainly yes!

As you say the actual Train Weight is what matters. Train Weight is a Technical Parameter set by the tow vehicle manufacturer. The manufacturer is not interested in the MGW of what is being towed as that is academic.

However, I don't believe your quoted actual figures as they break the laws of physics unless you have some kind of helicopter arrangement on the roof...your overall weight appears to be 40kg more than the sum of the weight of the individual wheels...

I have often wondered about that, but I'm sure I have seen it said that this is normal.

There still seems to be a bit of confusion over which weight to go by for the Yaris. Some say GVW, some say kerbweight.

Thanks for all replies so far, but is there a definitive answer that I can be confident with.

Covered here paragraph 7.
