Hi Poleman
We took our car on its trailer this year and had no problems getting on or off the ferry.
We have a Rapido 9048df with smart car and smart car trailer we did not have to take off the jockey wheel but if still have concerns then pull up your jockey wheel as far as it can go making sure that that the wheel is facing the right way to go forward and if it is a little low the wheel will run as it touches the ramp which will only be for around a foot and you will be clear.

Hope this helps
Regards
Ray

Hi
Yes we have done this 4 times now, as you can see we have a Mercedes LWB chassis with which we tow a trailer with a Smart car on.. We have had know problem at all.

You can also purchase from Bantam TRAILERS of Northampton a mounting for your Jockey wheel and stalk that will swing the jockey wheel horizontally I think they are made by Al-KO, so the jockey wheel is completely out of the way. Problem solved

Good luck

Delboy

Thanks for the replies. I could drive the car down separately but it's a 3 to 4 hour journey, and we are going together so it seems pointless to go in 2 vehicles.
We could trailer the car down and drive the car over but I need to store the trailer somewhere.

The other option is to leave the car at home and that defeats the object of having the trailer.

To clear up the "remove the jockey wheel" idea if I unscrew the assembly it will not come out the bottom because the 'A' frame is too low to get it out because it's a heavy duty ribbed type jockey wheel.

I'm trying my old ALKO caravan jockey wheel this weekend which is shorter but is so low geared the holiday is over by the time you've wound it down. Laughing
