hi. do you carry a motorbike on the back or a low tow bar or tag with a tow bar . on a few occasions backing into a friend's drive my tow bar catches the floor because of the steep incline or when we are fully loaded for Spain getting on& off the ferry or any time when there is a big change in the road levels. i fitted these two nylon casters wheels NO welding necessary and tried them out they work a treat and after all there is only a problem of a distance of a metre or so .jud

Many American RVs have casters or skids fitted to their back ends Jud. Somehow RVs often have enormous overhangs.

Hiya

That is a cool idea but it may be worth trying to mount them higher? You have now reduced the clearance available with the wheels being lower than the bar they're mounted on so you will hit more things more often?

Not trying to be negative, but getting the wheels to be just below the lowest point rather than entirely below (kind of recessed?) would perhaps be better?

hi grizzly yes i know what you mean but if you look at the tow bar where the ball is fitted it hangs down further than the tow bar that is the place where it catches and after all out of 18 weeks abroad spread over 1 year it has only been a prob 2 times like i said in the post tried it and is o.k . jud

I mentioned a similar idea that I had a couple of times here with regards to castors fitted to the underside of the chassis.

Then I saw my idea on a Concorde Liner in Germany being driven by a Grumpy Norwegian who claimed he could speak no English (First Norwegian I have ever met that can't). So I could not discuss the solution on his van. Wonder if concorde fir them?.

I assume they carry the weight okay?

Ray,

I found the suggested alternative search criteria on your linked site rather amusing. Maybe I could strap a couple of them to the rear end of my overhang instead Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked .

John

I have a similar problem.

However, am I missing a trick?

If one lowers the contact point onto the wheel/skid, surely one is starting a load moment onto the towbar and transferring it onto wherever that is anchored, earlier than before, and at a gradually increasing force as one gets further down?

OK it stops the scraping noise , but at what cost to structural damage?

ENGINEERS help please!
