I started a thread asking for advice on converting old Sony camcorder tapes to DVD, and had several useful replies that I was going to print out.
With the server problem going on I was unable to do so in the last two days, and now the thread appears to have disappeared completely.

If you posted originally, or if you have any new advice to give, then I would appreciate it here.

Hi.

Minus the waffle.

Analog to digital here (make sure it is for your operating system)

Tape head cleaner here

The program I use to make films or burn an entire tape. Cyberlink Power Director. here

All this works, if your Sony camera is the same as mine there will be no firewire socket so will not work with firewire, the above gizmo will work on digital cameras as well as analog.

Hi what rarecrock is saying is right that software is excellent.
I always use roxio as the link suggests.
I also use Ulead video suite.
a cheap and cheerful option is here att to the camcorder and load the software preloaded in the dongle. Smile

Hope this helps.
Mind you you can record with lots of options not just dvd all will play on a modern DVD player. CDR, CDRW,AVI, ECT.
DVD takes a long time to render,(produce) depending on your processesor.
Hope this helps.

I have a Sony Handycam HC22E but cannot download to PC, it says it will not work with Windows 7 and in order to do it to an inferior version I have to locate the (very) old DVD for it and then go via Sony support......

after all that it still says it will not work for various options....... Rolling Eyes

Frustrating to say the least, so any suggestions welcomed (other than a new camera!) Crying or Very sad

Will these options also work transferring to an SD card, as well as a DVD?

You really do not need any special option for transferring onto an SD Card only for transferring from an SD card which the computer will look upon as an external drive, and can be accessed from my computer in windows. (Windows does also have it's own video suite which is quite good in its own right.)
Editing software would treat that as an input hard drive device and one could then transfer it to your own hard d rive to edit via the software.
Editing software will turn your input file into
any workable format that you want.

Do you have a fire wire connection, or is the connection USB.

Hi.

I think he will have sockets for these on his camera, or at least two of them one for sound the other for video, if so the gizmo from Maplins in my early post will work.. You do get a disc that gives you basic video editing software when you buy the package..
