The receiver has power, I get the correct screen on the TV showing the satellite I want with the signal strength graph etc. BUT no matter what I do with the dish, I cannot get a signal or picture.
I know where the dish needs to be pointing, but nothing, nichts, nyada....... blank screen....
I guess you have already checked but have you made sure that the coaxial cable is nor shorting out? i.e. a single strand the thickness of a hair shorting out at either end can stop it working. If there is a short the lnb will get no power.
You have aligned a dish before so you are used to that aspect of it. A couple of things to note with the new dish.
It's vertical angle may well be different as the lnb arm is different and so are the bracket.
Make sure that the lnb is fitted in the correct location i.e. pushed in properly. Also it might have a skew setting (rotation), I would guess set it at mid point.
Cheers for the advice Ched - when connecting the co-ax to the lnb, the connection on the end of the cable fell apart in my hands and I thought ' whoopie - this is why it isnt working', so I cut the end off (slightly corroded) and re-made the connection with the threaded metal union, connected it to the lnb and..............nothing!
Does it matter that the lnb is a quad (I think that is what it is called - it has 4 connections...)?
The skew is set on '3' on a scale of 1 to 5 - so mid point.
Can a cable break down over time? Unlikely I would have thought....
Am thinking of trying a new cable - they are not expensive....
Carl
Water can get into the cable and cause corrosion. I guess you remade the connection correctly? I am sure there will be a you tube video if you want to check.
I would use the output from the lnb that is labelled no1 if it has a number. I have only used a quad lnb when I needed multiple outputs but I would be very surprised if you had to use connection 1 for a single cable but you never know?
This is another reason to have a multimeter as you could check the resistance between inner core and outer (find a short) or the continuity of the inner then the outer (check for cable breaks).
I assume you can't check the receiver at home on a fixed dish (already working dish on wall)? That would prove the receiver is working.
It is possible that it's the cable but I would be slightly worried about why the original power supply failed. It could well be that the old power supply died due to old age but it could be something wrong with the receiver blew the power supply.
