I love my ipod, it never ceases to amaze me when I think off all those hundreds of albums in such a tiny package, especially when I look at the size of the hifi we've still got in the living room.

Both of my boys (8 and 12) have ipod touch's. They use them all the time, probably one of the best things I ever bought them. They have music on them and films, games etc. So I would definately get the touch. My eldest was given an iphone 3gs by his cousin yesterday as she has upgraded to the 4s, so we plugged it into the pc last night and put all the stuff from the touch on to the phone and now we have a very happy bunny.
My children (4) all have ipod touches as do I. Two of them have the 8gb versions which they find too small as they both have largish music collections. I have a 32gb one which is full with music and a couple of movies. My advice would be to go for the 16gb or 32gb as they will quickly fill up. Another thing to bear in mind though is that modern smart phones now do just about everything that an ipod touch does. In fact I seldom use my touch now as I have all my music etc on my phone. Therefore if a smartphone is on the horizon then the touch may become redundant.
The iPod touches in this house are used constantly as they are so easy and quick accessing internet etc. My lot don't have iPhones and do have smart phones but still enjoy the iPod touch. However, remember the iPad screen is much larger than a smart phone so are really quick and easy to pick up and surf the web, check emails, Facebook etc and you can obviously see much more of the website pages although it's really easy to zoom in and out on these devices at a touch.
iPad is my favourite, but we haven't got one yet... went to buy one and came out with a MacBook Pro, which is fantastic.
p.s. Apple after sales is excellent too. Check out the Genius bar on Apple website.
