Bought a MEOS 15" TV for the van just over 2 years ago and it's decided to give up the ghost.
When I switch it on the screen stays blank, no sound and the light in the bottom right goes straight to green, rather than the red standby like it used to.
Can't get any response out of it what so ever. I've tried emailing MEOS support on several email address several times but do not get any response.
So I wrote to WeDoDigital who I bought the set from and got the response
"The below error suggests a fault with the LCD screen.
Unfortunately, sourcing a replacement LCD screen and repairing the unit will likely cost more than a new unit.
In consideration of your previous purchase, we can offer a £15 discount on a new order."
My response to that was "I think a TV going faulty after only 2 years is not good enough to justify me buying another one even with a £15 discount!!"
So if you're looking at a MEOS be warned. I've gone and bought an Avtex.
I too have a Meos and am inclined to agree that it is not the best kid on the block but I guess I got what I paid for. Picture and sound are good, although I do sometimes get a high pitched whistle on some stations.
Their back to front DVD slot encouraged me to return the unit to suppliers, They did not complain, they sent it to Germany who tested it, found no fault. It was my wife who pointed out the printed instructions on the side of the unit saying to put discs in 'back to front'. It proves I am a man and do not read instructions .
I do however believe that you would have got the same reply about the Avtex after two years and that for all I know, they could both be using the same screen.

Sounds like bad luck but typical of modern appliances.
I was considering a smaller Meos but might just go for a cheap as chips Aldi job as nothing seems built to last.
Ive just flooded our Kitchen trying to fix the Hotpoint washing machine we have which ran out of cover when we were away (yeah I know me fixing a washing machine, hilarious!). Its about the fourth one we have had. every year or two they just pack in.
Its one thing making stuff cheaper but its not much cop if they break all the time. Im sure a lot of electronic kit is designed that way so it breaks just outside the guarentee.
ARGGGH!
Sorry.

You need to read Cabby's thread entitled "do you know your rights?"
as it's pretty clear from that that the supplier doesn't know their legal obligations.
If they had offered me £15 off they would have had a very short and sharp reply.

I did the same as you with the DVD player. Spent half hour trying to get it to work. It was pointed out to me by someone laughing reading the manual!!
I was happy with the MEOS when I bought it. Not the best picture quality and certainly not the best sound out of it and it's viewing angles were quite restrictive but it was ok. I know it's cheaper quality but it still wasn't that cheap when I bought it. And it should last more than 2 years.
I think what was most disappointing though was the total lack of response from MEOS themselves and a paltry £15 off from WeDoDigital.
The Avtex I bought has free 3 year warranty and the quality of the picture and sound beat the old one by a mile. Far better, but I could have done without the extra expense.
We also have a Meos and we (or I) also did the same thing with the DVD, and again Mrs Grath noticed that I had put it in the wrong way
However after about 2 years it is still working very well and we are completely satisfied with it and still think it was good value.
Regarding the viewing angle, we have not noticed any problem or limitation as we do look from straight ahead (ish)
Though, I must say that ours has had little use as we don't watch TV too much when we are away. At home our larger 42 inch is never off

Complete with both 240v-12v and 12/30v-12v stabilised adaptors.
LED screen, so viewing angle is as wide as you can view it from sound is OK certainly as good as the 32" Panasonic we have at home and an excellent PVR function that works with almost any USB drive including hard discs.
The EPG takes a bit of getting used to, but is OK once you have puzzled it out

I bought a Meos through We-DO-Digital and had a fault. They did not want to know, but directed me to Meos office (In actuality I think just an agency).
I took the unit to them, trading estate in Rochester, Kent. They accepted it, despatched it to the factory and it was delivered back to my home address a week later. So no complaint with Meos themselves.
