Hello,

After 10 years and 5 Smart cars and after receiving bad service when trying to buy a new Smart I have decided to look else where.

We have almost concluded on a Abarth 500 (sports Fiat 500)

However, we will need to replace our current trailer. Increasing the size of a trailer would cause issues on sites and at our storage site, so we have looked at A Frames.

Sorry but please I do not need advise on the legalities of A Frames

We do not take the car to Europe as we have a Vespa in the Garage.

I really like the look of tow2tow. They can fit the system without modification to the front of the vehicle, which is important and the cost to swap to a new car is £250. This is also important as we change the car every 2 years.

Has anyone used this company. I would love to hear any comments about this company or any recommendations of any similar company. They have quoted me a price of £1680 fully fitted including VAT

Hi, we used a company called Armitage up in Ferrybridge,nr Pontefract. They make tow frames and fit them to your car. They even lend you a car while they're working on yours. We had ours fitted to our peugeot 107 and its the best thing we ever did. It cost around £850 inc. vat and was a really excellent job. Give them a look before you decide. nigel@armitagetrailers.com

Your not comparing apples with apples there, although they essentially do exactly the same job.

The towbars to towcars system is totally different to the old fashioned Armitages's unit.

In the last month I have ended up buyinga Toyota Aygo with a new Armitage frame & a week later a Fiat 500 convertable (long story!) with the T2T A frame system.

The T2T system is just so much neater, with really nice concealed mounting points & neat external electric plug in point, not the lumpy always visible eyelets you get on the Armitages system. Not to mention much lighter to install on the car at roughly half the weight I would guess.

If a low purchase cost is not the primary concern its an easy choice to make from what I've seen of the two types.

If you want pictures of the Fiat 500 install vrs the Armitage style (same as most others) email me & I will send some to you.

To add to that, though, if you want a photo of the Chris Cox system ("old fashion type"), PM me....the mounting points are barely visible on the Fiat 500.

Worth speaking to your Fiat dealer about this...I've heard varying reports about whether the factory towing points are suitable for towing long distances versus for recovery purposes only.

I chose to believe that TB2TC's was a superior system and had it fitted in August. We've towed our Panda about 1500 miles since then and I'm delighted with the performance.

Although the location of the Panda's towing points were used, a much greater thread size was tapped resulting in what looks to be a very robust job.

The vast majority of answers you get will of course be biased as the question is really only open to owners and no-one will admit to buying a system that is no good or not as good as they initially thought, I am not saying that the system is no good by the way, I don't know as I have not got one, Just as the users that comment have not got another system to compare it too.

I initially inquired at T2TC when I was looking at purchasing and I was disgusted at their total lack of customer relations, after 4 emails I did eventually get an answer, I was asking questions about having their system fitted to my car, The reply gave me a list of ready fitted systems to their cars that were for sale, So I telephoned them, Not interested again just kept telling me what was for sale, So I purchased elsewhere.

You must also bear in mind that their system is ONLY for lightweight vehicles.

Hi We had the TB2TC system fitted to our Peugoet in October this year and cannot fault the service we received.
We chose the system after much research and looking at 6 systems at the Lincoln show.

We stayed at a local CL while the work was carried out and Graham loaned us a car so we could get out and about.

The system is very neat and tidy and the tow bar is much lighter than most of the others so is much easier to handle.
If you want more info feel free to PM me.

Les,

Appreciate your comments. The reason I am so interested in T2T was after a simple vetting process where I rang various companies asking loads of questions on the telephone.

T2T came across as being the most knowledge and were certainly the most helpful on the telephone. Hence, reason I narrowed it down to them.

They all charge around the same price. For me quality if installation was the most important point.

Thanks

Stewart

Bit surprised by that last comment Stewart. They are chalk & cheese (and NB over-run based systems may need updating post approx 2015 due to legislation changes), but you cite T2T at £1680 when Chris Cox (and I assume Towtal etc) come in at about half that cost.
