hi,

just had a very interesting chat with a nice lady at sky, phoned up to complain that they were trying to put the price of my broadband up, told her that as i dident use it for best part of 9 months,i thought i was paying enough.

when i explained that we had a motorhome, and travelled a lot,she asked me was i signed into the new go.sky.com,when i asked what it was i was amazed. if you can get either broadband or wifi out in the van,you sign into your sky contract, and can play sky program's on your laptop, phone ,anything, and she said if you get a cable between laptop and tv you can upload onto your tv,but you can also use it at home, so you can have different program's anywhere.

if everybody but me knows about this i will just feel a fool.

mags,
ps,she knocked my bill down a fiver,so well worth the phonecall

Yes, you can use this service; but she obviously failed to tell you that you will need at least a mobile broadband service at a cost, or access to a WiFi hotspot.
She also failed to tell you that if you then use that mobile internet abroad, it will cost you more than your house.
If you really need Sky when travelling, best advice is to use a satellite dish.

Hi,

Glad you've found this - it is very useful while travelling. It has been advertised on TV and through mail and is featured prominently on their web site. But always worth drawing attention to useful things that others may have missed.

Jed

It is a very good service (so long as you have a fast enough internet connection) and you can enable two different devices to be authorised to receive it. My teenage son who is at college uses it as there was no way that I was going to pay for a sky subscription. It also solves the problem of who has the Sky box if we are away in the motorhome when my 22 year old is left at home. In the past there has been much pleading to leave the Sky box behind.

App for your i-Phone too, so if you can get a wi-fi hotspot you can watch Sky Sports etc on a clear, albeit tiny screen.. Smile

One problem, you can't use that SkyGo service outside the UK.

You can use it at home too.
I think it's on up to 3 different devices, ie your main computer in one room and your laptop in the summerhouse with another laptop elsewhere as well as having your main tv on the dish.

They can all be on different channels as long as they are within your package!

hi,

looks like another phone call to sky, the way she described it,as long as you could pick up wifi,anywhere...you could use the service, because your package was still at home.

i told her that most of the time we dident bother with tv,we just tape lots of sky programs, and still never watch them, but as she said if you needed to see news etc,its was worth looking for wifi, and the service is free.

we too leave everything on at home, because we need somebody to be in the property for the insurance, only maybe once a week, but if the son or daughter stays the night,if they use phone etc,its proof the property is being checked.

You can if you sign up to or use one of the many UK Proxy services. You need a username and password, but I have one from a friend Wink

We use Sky, iPlayer, 4OD, ITV etc etc through a proxy service but it does require a decent broadband connection.
