Has anyone recently had a quote from Saga for their Motorhome Insurance?
I put the initial enquiry in on Tuesday when a young lady took all our details and she was very thorough, wanting more information than most insurance companies.
Saga required the type of street we live on,do we have adequate street lighting, how long is the drive we keep the Motorhome on,is it visable from the road, security lighting, garden walls, neighbourhood watch scheme, are the keys kept within 6 yards of the front door (as if!),how long have we owned Motorhomes, which way round do we park it on the drive?
I answered all the questions and the normal questions you are usually asked about alarms and trackers and other security devices and I was advised I would get a call back later in the week with further questions!
The call came today and we were asked again about the layout of our property, drive and street and would we upgrade the alarm from a Cat 1-2 Alarm and Tracker to a Cat5 ?
I think this request for a quote is getting out of hand especially as we have not made a claim in the last 5 years, never been refused insurance and have lived in the same place for 14years!
I know insurance companies need to ask these questions but I have not got a price from them yet!
On a positive note Comfort have given me an excellent quote without any fuss!

We've been with them for some time and had the same experience recently when phoning for a renewal quote.

I'm sure the insurance companies don't need me to defend them but I do wonder if this is Saga's way of making sure they have all the information they need ? There are so many stories of insurance companies who turn down your claim because you've not disclosed some apparently major piece of information...that you were never asked for and didn't know you were supposed to disclose. If the insurance company ask you every possible question first and cover everything they want to know then there can be no grey areas and threats of litigation when the crunch comes ( so to speak....!)

Just a thought.

We have used Saga before for Motorhome,Car and Home Insurance and they have been very good hence me trying to get a quote for the Motorhome this year.
Maybe just a sign of the times, don't mind providing any information but this is turning into interrogation!
Maybe I might get a lovely surprise in the morning when they call and offer me a brilliant quote Laughing Laughing Laughing !

I wouldn't get excited Val ! They've offered us a hugely inflated one. Far more than last year.

I have just had exactly the same experience as you and by the time they got back to me 2 days later I had accepted a quote from the NFU.

Me too! Same as Grizzly and Peedee but with house insurance.

I had been with them for many years, and just assumed (without much thought Embarassed ) that premiums were going up - like everything else.

This year they wanted (from memory) £734.

I contacted a local insurance broker and ended up with better and more comprehensive cover from Aviva, for almost exactly a third of the price.

Same here with the grossly inflated renewal quotes from Saga. Mentioned on here a few weeks ago , our renewal quote was + £ hundreds from previous year .When we questioned the hike , saga waffled about it .

We eventually went with the MHF/Aviva cover.

Strangely enough I wrote about Saga a couple of weeks ago, It was mainly due to the fact that they are part of the Acromas group. The Aa and a couple of cruise ships etc.
It took 30 minutes to go through all the questions that the young lady put to me. There were a lot not because i'm senile. She kept saying that the quote will mirror my NCD as I have car insurance with them too.
Well after the 30 minutes, it was cheaper....by 43p and she was amazed that I wouldn't change to them.
A few weeks later my car insurance from Saga (Acromas Group) quote came through £757.00 and that I need do nothing as 25% would be taken out the day after renewal due.
Not so fast!!!
Nobody takes money automatically and the quote i got for the same cover with the AA (Acromas Group) was £425.00. Now how can one company compete with itself and be over £300 cheaper?
I am sure they think of a price and send it out.
Anyway, strangely enough I told Saga not to take any money out of my account (and instructed the bank to stop any direct debits) as I would not be renewing with them....EVER!!!

You were right Grizzly,no fantastic offer has been made today Laughing !
Thanks for all the replies,I was starting to think that Saga new something that we didn't hence all the questions!
How strange they have adopted this approach when they once had an excellent record for customer service.
If it takes this long to get a quote what will they be like if (heaven forbid!)
we had to make a claim?
Well it is looking pretty much like we will go for the Comfort quote which was very reasonable.

I am not a Saga fan either. Our 2 cars were with them and they hiked up the renewal by over 40%. I am just waiting for the household renewal to arrive and I expect more of the same. This time I will renew with Barclays Bank. I was with them a few years ago and the price was not too bad. At the moment they have a good offer on and I expect to save quite a bit. If anyone else is interested, the offer ends shortly.
