I had a KVH 4 which is the larger of the KVH4 domes, The actual dish is 81cm wide but only 36.8cm High so it is in fact a small dish, I found the even across Europe and just into North Italy and Southern France I lost sat signals, I replaced it with an Oyster 85cm Skew and as yet I have not lost the signal anywhere, I have not been into Spain though.

I must admit that for where I tour I was very disappointed with the KVH seeing as how I sold an Oyster 85cm to buy it because it was more pleasing to the eye, So now I have sold the KVH and bought an Oyster which also has Internet.

Hi Les, would be very interested to know what sort of reception you can get in Spain with the Oyster, because at the price I have seen quoted (£2700.00), I would be very disappointed if I couldn't get a signal anywhere throughout Europe after paying that sort of money.

Unfortunately mate I will never be able to tell you as I have no desire nor intention of going to Spain.

Now where I travel I DO get a signal with the Oyster, I didn't get it with the KVH so I am happy and as far as I am concerned that is all that matters.

It matters not to me whether the OP buys either, he asked for comments and I gave my comments and not a word of a Lie.

Just to clarify that the R4SL model is a 30cm dish that has an overall diameter of 81cm.

I also have this model and it has a surprising range considering the relatively small dish.It worked well right down to the South of France this year when it started to lose some of the weaker channels.

Its the dish size not the dome size ....must agree though the performance seems pretty impressive ..but as wakk44 says you loss the progs, as you go south,

I have the Camos 40cm Dome. It picks up the "normal" UK channels everywhere in France, as far east as Bavaria and into Northern Italy.

On the extremes (south of France / Italian Lakes) if its very overcast or raining it will break up but Astra South (probably got that wrong) still works but rubbish channels.

It does however change to Sirus, Hotbird and a couple of others at the press of a button so you will always get something but mainly foreign rubbish and English News type channels. It worked (just) in Northern Spain if it was clear.

Other plus points are the price (about £1350 fitted) and the fact you dont have to take it down when its windy.

There are loads of post on here as suggested but can be hard to find. From memory Im not sure there is anything you can fit to a van that will work at the far south of Spain

Sorry Les my comments were not meant as a critisicm and I fully agree,it is what you are happy with that counts, your comments were as always, an honest appraisal for the benefit of the OP.

One point that never seems to come up is will the dome put the van height over 3 metres? This will result in higher French autoroute costs at automatic barriers.

It does John. Wink

Wakk44 was caught last summer with exactly that problem, and he couldn't get a refund either.

It was mentioned (somewhere) a couple of weeks ago.

On the odd occasion we have taken the toll road sometimes it comes up as class three but I just press the intercom and say camping car class 2 and they just change it without any quible

I had a very long argument with the office at Clermont Ferrand about the validity of Class 3 and got nowhere. All the booths were unmanned. My problem is different, we are 3m and I had a Datastorm on top which, I hope, was the final straw. I have removed it for other reasons so hope I dont trigger it now. If I do, I will try the intercom.
