I`m for Garmins so my recommendation would be, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Garmin-1340-Widescreen-Western-Europe/dp/B0021L9BJC/ref=sr_1_24?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1322507569&sr=1-24

hi dilly

I have just been looking at that model on Amazon and it seems to fare very reasonably, only she will have no use for European maps, so that would be a waste. I haven't researched sat nav for years, the mind is now boggling. Laughing

My brain hurts.

Hi Steve,
I know what you mean about the European maps being a bit of an overkill but its a very good model, its cheap as chips and it will have a better re-sale value should you want to sell/upgrade in the future. Smile , and I believe its better value than any Tom Tom out there.

Sorry to disagree, its TomTom for me.
I just updated to a much discounted TomTom Go 750 and with the computerised voice installed I find it difficult to fault but of course it could just be familiarity with Tom Tom's. Happily last months Which magazine agrees with me.
Alan

Thank you guys for all your help. I now have coming a Garmin Nuvi 1340LMT Sat Nav - UK,ROI & Western Europe. I know it has the Euro maps that will be a waste of time for my Mum but, I have just done a deal with a member of this site so that is what she is getting. Very Happy

Thanks again.

Steve
