Hi, a newcomer to the site!

In a fortunate position of being able to upgrade my Autotrail Mohican to an RS Endeavour as we intend to live for large parts of the year in it, 2-3 months at a time mostly in Europe.

Nice thing about RS is you can have it built to your own specification and it is British!!

Couple of general questions which have no doubt been asked before!!

1. Should I order it RHD or LHD. I am told it has better resale value as RHD, but more convenient LHD for driving in Europe.

2. Considering air suspension, rear only or full?

Any other tips/advice welcome as build will not start until Feb next year.

Regards BigKen

Hello and welcome Ken.

RS make lovely vans but they won't be well known outside the UK so when it comes to reselling the market will be in the UK so I would say RHD. LHD is a little better for driving in Europe but you will manage fine with RHD, we do and we spend nearly all our time away from the UK.

If the resale value is not of great importance then LHD but I doubt it's easy for RS to move the hab door to the right too (as they are on the continent) as that would mean rearranging the interior to suit. With LHD but hab door on the left you would end up with a strange hybrid , possibly with very few people interested in paying the right price for it.

My next van will be a continental or American made LHD if we continue spending most of our time in Europe.

Good luck with it, they are nice vans, Alan.

I am surprised to see so few answers to the OP's questions. These must be issues many of us have considered? Alan.

LHD without a doubt.

My reasoning is simple.

Its not to do with anything abroad but in the UK. You see when we are down a narrow country lane in our 30ft N&B, I can get so close to hedge, walls etc to allow vehicles to pass without damaging my van.

It may be a strange reason but it works for us.

Oh and as we spend 8 montsh of the year abroad it does come in handy there aswell.

As for Air Suspension, rear without a doubt. Our Hymer had it on and it was really good. We did not find the need for a front AS.

LHD for me every time. If you go off motorways onto single carriageway roads abroad it is much easier if you have to overtake, and less stressful for your passenger as it is not nice being on the 'outside' when you do no have control of the vehicle.

The resale value would not influence me greatly as there is a high probability that the vehicle would be interesting to others who want to spend a considerable time abroad and they would want LHD. On the last two van sales the enquirers first question was 'is it LHD?', if not they would not have been interested.

Is that the justification for the RS?

We spend 2-3-4 months away at a time in Europe, and we manage fine in our 7.5m Chausson - two of us and a large dog. I see that the Endeavour starts at 9.1m long, which is quite a large van. Where do you intend staying abroad? We went on a beautiful aire recently, but only just managed to negotiate the chicane on the entrance. Anything over 8m would have problems, I think.

Please excuse my comment if you think it's impertinent. If you're going to be staying at campsites, and using motorways to travel, then size probably isn't an issue. As we never use pay roads, and use aires wherever we can, I wouldn't like to go bigger than our van.

However, I always hear great reports about RS motorhomes. I wish you well in your adventures Very Happy

Gerald

P.S. We have a RHD van. No problems over there.

LHD

Why. Regardless of resale value, you can sell it on the continent. Doubt you would for a RHD/ Plus, if you are going to be on the Continent, why suffer RHD. Go for max safety.

Rear Air Only.

Front should be comfortable enough. Even most Luxury cars / vehicles only have rear air.

first van was a LHD after 7 years convinced it was the only way to go 75% of my journeys over there etc, was persuaded to get RHD on this van as the boss said she would never drive LHD, have to admit didn't notice a lot of inconvenience in our last 3 week trip abroad & she's still not driven it ,
i think the argument that as a brit van it would be more valid RHD is correct, i think my 7 mt van is a bit big to get where i like going but the beauty of this game is each to thier own,

Thanks all, it is very encouraging, so looks like LHD with rear air!!

Liked the comment from Andrew & Shirley as to why LHD is better in narrow lanes in UK, excellent observation.

As to why RS asked by Gerald & Annie, we have looked around quite a lot and was very interested in a Carthago, which is very well put together but we felt spoilt a bit by the tight lounge area. RS score heavily as - British, they will build to our spec, can add lots of nice touches and is Ģ20k cheaper!! Being a bit longer and 5inches wider it gives the feeling of a lot more space.

However the size will no doubt be a bit of a pain at times.

As they say "you make your own choices"

Time will prove if we are right!!!
