Hi All.

You may wish to check your MFH policy.

I had decided to change my insurance from the Caravan Club to MFH as there was an £80 saving with very similar benefits.

They very kindly sent me all the information via email and it all seemed good value.

I just happened to ask a question about the European Breakdown cover, whilst on the phone intending to book the cover, as this was listed as inclusive, only to be told that it was a typographic error and European cover was not included.

I have attached a copy of the Aviva headed fact sheet sent to me as part of their quotation correspondence.

I am concerned that a number of members who may have this insurance are confident that if they break down abroad are covered which clearly is not the case.

I am now reconsidering as I'm not confident that should I have a claim, MFH could advise that another assumed benefit was a typographic error.

Regards
Terry

I do have European cover with my MHF policy but it was made clear when I took out the insurance that it was at an additional cost (which I paid).

Terry,

That really is not good enough, you have been supplied with a Key Facts document which under FSA rules must be issued to anyone seeking a quotation/cover, the reason for this being that the enquirer has details of the main features of the cover.

If they issue a Key Facts document they should stick to the terms of that document - the FSA would not be impressed.

Seems to be a fundamental difference between MHF and Comfort covers.

My policy with Comfort, underwritten by Aviva, includes European Breakdown cover, and as I have used it I know that it is definitely included. The MHF insurance details on the website quotes the breakdown cover as Optional.

I would imagine that what has happened is that whoever dealt with your enquiry sent you the Key Facts document in respect of the Comfort scheme in error - not your problem, tell them to honour what they have sent you or you may contact the FSA to complain.

I have just looked at the keyfacts for my MHF policy and here is a copy, there is a difference between the MHF and MHF Platinum policys.

Mine is the same!
European breakdown cover is shown as included on both standard and Platinum cover.
The only differences are replacement locks and Breakdown cover provided by the RAC (which is listed as a separate feature to European Breakdown Cover)

Also looking at the docs in a bit more detail mine is
BMOPC7107010 (V28.2) 11/2011 (G)

The one showing European Breakdown excluded from standard cover is
BMOPC7107010 (V28.2) 06/2009 (A)

Same version number, different date!

Ooops......... looks like the proof reader (if there was one Rolling Eyes ) may be looking for a new job.

Mrs S works in the print trade and never fails to be amazed at the number of firms that approve a proof and then only complain about a mistake when they have several thousand copies arrive............... the answer is "Tough - here is a copy of your confirmation that the proof you were sent was OK."

Does that mean you have European cover if so why am I being told it is not available on the standard policy as shown? or are your documents like the ones sent to me and you actually don't have cover.?

I'm even more confused than I was before.
