If he wants to use the data from his current verson of QB 2005 then it may well not be compatible with the Mac version.

I have QB V6 which I run on XP but it wont run on my laptop on Win7. I have just set it up to run on a Virtual Machine running XP on my laptop. VMware, MS and VirtualBox versions all work and are reasonably easy to set up.

Thanks Ian. I think the Mac system is out of the question as its only available in the US.

I have just learned that Parallels will actually install XP from his old PC if you plug the drive into the mac.

Sounds dodgey to me as it might also carry across any problems or OS issues but its another option to at least try it.

Parallels is excellent!

Bootcamp is good, but you have to restart your mac and run in either Mac or PC mode.

With Parallels you just launch on your mac like any other programme. When I test websites etc I author in Mac and check on Parallels running XP. It's very stable and will automatically share folders from mac into PC environment.
Even if you plug in a USB device, a screen pops up and asks if you want to enable device in Mac/PC.

I only paid £49 for my copy. I think you can also get a demo.
You will need a copy of XP or whatever PC you want to run. I used a copy of XP from .iso backup!

Thanks again

Following a site visit and meeting this morning they have decided to dump going the Mac route. Too many concerns I think. So I have ordered QB 2012 for PC.

It turned out his data files he thought were backed up for two companies were not backed up at all. Luckily I extracted the hard drive off the knackered computer and recovered the two company file masters from the C:\ root directory of all places!

Got them working on an XP box in the office now. Just have to work out how to get the whole lot from Verison 5 onto 2012 on Windows 7 now. Oh and order a new Windows 7 PC for tomorrow.

I think they have had a lucky escape as if I hadnt recovered the files off the hard drive they would be well and truly stuffed.
