not to worry, before the planet dies I am sure we will all be using vehicles that run on fresh air virtually, or sea water.

I am sure that the tax revenue income to Governments will be comparable to that on fossile fuels. There will also be a Green movement complaining that you are using finite resources, the world's seas will dry up and the population of the world will need oxygen tanks to survive. It will be manufactured oxygen, taxed very heavily.
I wonder how much pollution is caused during the MOT test of revving all those diesel engines to max reves. I guess I will have to learn to live and let live.

Probably about the same amount as is produced in 0.000001s of running a coal powered power station......
Frankly unless we decide to stop the use of all electric powered items and eliminate all transport except feet (animal or human) we just have to accept it.
The amount of CO2 produced by the UK is minimal c/w the amount produced by each of the three major polluting countries; China, India and the USA, even if we eliminated all CO2 emissions in Europe it would be replaced in about 5 minutes by those three - all of which have no interest in tackling the problem.
It would be like using a flannel to remove the water that flooded Queensland - and about as much use in isolation......
I wonder what the Insurance company said when you told them that you'd "decatted" ? You DID tell them of this modification, ......didn't you ?
The following are not my words, but make interesting reading -
"It is my understanding that removing the catalytic converter from any vehicle manufactured from 1993 onwards is illegal. It contravenes the construction and use regulations, which state that all vehicles manufactured in 1993 and onwards HAVE to be fitted with a catalytic converter. All vehicles manufactured after that date must have the exhaust gasses passed through a converter. It is even an offence to fit a none type approved cat to a vehicle. It is also a technical MOT failure, in that the exhaust is incomplete or has parts missing or has been retro fitted with a none type approved cat, reference the certificate of construction and use compliance and type certification issued to the manufactures. "
At the very least, you're potentially in Fixed Penalty territory if you're pulled
I'll get me coat......

Sorry, but the latest changes (or changes just about to come in) require that if a cat was fitted as standard it must be there.
This only applies to vehicles that are subject to a full emmissions test i.e. currently petrol models. It does not apply to diesels.
Ray (airstream) posted in a previous post;
Re question on MOT cat/no cat it has been confirmed by VOSA that diesels are not subject to a "full cat emisions test" and that they propose to re word the MOT testers manual as quoted below
"VOSA have proposed an amendment to the Method of Inspection in the Inspection Manual, so that it will read "On petrol engine vehicles that qualify for a full cat emissions test, check the presence of the catalytic converter".
I would be very cautious about removing a cat. New MOT rules apply since 1st January 2012 which state that any vehicle originally fitted with a cat must have one fitted for the MOT test. Lots of other new rules too, including where a tow bar is fitted it must be checked and the electrics must work correctly.

See the post above yours for the status of cat convertor checking.
Tow bar electrics are only checked for functionality if they are 13 pin. If they are 7 pin they are only checked for damage and security.
