We have had a Panasonic bread maker for years and years. (maybe 7 or 8 years) Perfect bread every time. No repairs or replacements yet, with little apparent wear.
We make about two small loaves of 50/50 (white and wholemeal flour) every week. The Grandchildren love it, so do we.
The recipe is all important though.
Most of our friends who bought less expensive makes have had to replace them or given up due to unpredictable results.
You don't want cheap food, just good food, so why scrimp a few quid. In the scheme of things in general, buy the best you can afford. Might be cheaper in the end.
When I said we kept all the ingredients in a tub I didn't mean we had a tub filled with a "ready mix" ...all we have is a plastic tub that is big enough to hold the various different bags of flour, a bag of caster sugar, a tin of milk powder and the box of dried yeast .... all ready in one place and as the bags of flour often leak a bit the flour dust this does not make a mess in the kitchen cupboard .
We have done quite a bit of experimentation with different recipes over the years of owning a breadmaker and we still do ring the changes by making some more exotic breads but for our everyday bread we now have a tried and tested recipe and it is a combination of the recipes found in the Panasonic books. The older models of this breadmaker (ours was a SD-206 which lasted about 15 years before the pan wore out) always included milk powder but the new one's ( SD-255) recipes do not have milk powder in them. The milk powder does have an effect on the loaves ...it makes the loaf have a better, crisper crust and colour and I think it improves the texture by making it a little softer .... so we have come up with this recipe for the SD 255 , it should work on all the new Panasonics.... give it a try for either a 1/2 and 1/2 or an all white loaf:
If you are going to set the timer then do add the ingredients in this order, the yeast must be kept dry until the process starts.
Use the supplied measure
Dried Yeast ( Tesco fast Action sachet) 1 teaspoon
Lidl White Bread Flour 226g or for all white 426g
Allinsons Premium Wholemeal 200g
Caster sugar 1/2 tablespoon
Butter 18g
Marvel Milk powder 1 tablespoon
Salt 1 teaspoon
Water 340ml for 1/2 & 1/2 or 325ml for all white
Set to Basic Bake
Set the size to M
Set the crust to M
and that's it ...a perfect loaf ....well we think so
Mike
P.S. this post does make me sound a bit like an bread "anorak" ...I'm not really ... we just like the nice things in life

Reason for change by spykal: got teaspoon & tablespoons mixed up for the sugar ...right now!
