It seems that Santa Claus is bringing me a satnav - something I have never used nor do I really want to, without sounding ungreatful (or is it ungrateful?) The model under discussion is the Snooper Ventura S7000 which I think is loaded with ACSI sites etc.

Does anyone have this model or another Snooper Ventura?

It looks an awful lot of money.

Russell

Do a search Russ-there's loads of stuff on it.

I believe the 7000 is the large screen with the tv access. The 6000 is the same without the tv. There are pros and cons for it-it's not all that easy to put your own poi's on & some on here have had problems getting Snooper to do so.

Hi Russell, yes we have have the Snooper Ventura S7000 and have found it very useful. Our motorhome being 7.5 mtrs long, 3.1 mtrs high and weighing 4 tons, by inputting the dimensions, the route the satnav picks avoids all possible problems. We don't rely on it entirely as we tend to plan our routes using a map and then check on the route the satnav chooses. It hasn't given us a bum steer yet Smile

What POI's are pre loaded? I believe it is all the ACSI inspectd sites. Are the aires and stellplatz there too?

Could you add other POIS such as Tesco etc?

Russell

Hi Russell,

I have owned one for about six months, I would say it's okay. nothing like the quality of the Tom Tom's I have had over the years and the directions given are perhaps not as clear as the tom tom.

I found whilst in France when I had no idea where I was and was being directed onto slip roads which had a north and south, the Snooper would say take the E38 in 500m but when there were 2 exits both of which were for the E38 one being 500m and the other 700m I got confused. Tom Tom would say take the E38 towards, and list the city, so it was very clear in which lane I needed to be.

The units volume, which I need to have at full volume is like listening to a 1960's pocket radio, very very poor quality speaker.

In it's defence, I have it set with the length, height, and weight of the van and it has never taken me on unsuitable roads.

It does have the ACSI preloaded and it took us to a number of Aires and Stelplatz.

If I was being 100% honest I would say it is not worth the money based on the hardware. However, it makes me feel a hell of a lot more relaxed knowing I will not be taken down some narrow street or weight restricted bridge.

So yes I would buy it again, but I would still complain about it's poor quality design. It is also has the most bulky ugly stand for the screen I ever seen.

I'm sure "Santa" could think of something else to fill your stocking with if you have managed all these years without one Wink

Hi Rapide

Yes there are all the Aires etc pre loaded but we downloaded from web other POI such as supermarkets, petrol stations , National Trust locations, Ferry ports etc.

We have the S5000 bought within last month so have not had chance to review as yet, but have noticed their map speed limits are very much out of date so when we are doing 50mph the Sat Nav keeps alerting as it thinks the limit is 30 or 40, just a little annoying.

We have the 6000. Particularly useful for planning routes based on your vehicle size. Has ACSI and Bordatlas sites pre-set. Also several UK brands - Tesco, Halfords, M&S & BP all spring to mind. We prefer to use maps most of the time but have found it very useful sometimes eg we would use map to plan a journey to a particular town and then satnav to find the tourist office in the town. Haven't worked out how to add our own POI but then haven't read the instructions yet either! Yes, a lot of money, but wouldn't be without it on our European tour

You have to send them to Snooper to have it done

Yes I have the 7000 and the mapping is nowhere as good as my tom-tom which also runs at the same time, the snooper has a larger screen yes.... But I would stay with the mapping of tom-tom, also the 7000 is a pain every time you switch the engine off the unit closes down and it a pain to start it up again, with the tom-tom use just switch on and it starts up and off you go... I would get Tom Tom truck next time, hope that helps rus?
