I have had three vans with alarms fitted, two have been Strikeback and the other was a Sigma. The only one I have had a problem with was the Sigma. Alarms are great when they work but a royal pain in the rear when they go wrong.
I have my latest van protected by a Strikeback fitted by Vanbitz in Taunton and they get my vote.

There´s something you´ve forgotten!
And that´s to laugh and smile and dance and sing!
Obviously, I did consider that I might get that sort of response.
The fact is that the van is securely stored when not in use, I don't consider theft from a campsite as being very likely, I don't wild camp, so the only time I consider an alarm necessary is when parked in public places - not very often in my case.
It's a calculated risk and we all make our choices, just like with any insurance. Looking around though, I doubt if many vans use anything more than the factory immobiliser, so they are likely to be targetted before me, I hope!
Obviously, if the van were stored at home or I wild camped or I travelled abroad there would be very different considerations and I might come up with a different answer.
In my experience a vehicle alarm in a public place has no impact so the only real answer is a tracker, which doesn't stop the van being nicked in the first place, it just means you have a good chance of getting the van back. If some low life wants to knick a motorhome rather than a car, then I suspect it's a motorhome he is after and he will go for a specific one he has targetted and an alarm either won't worry him or he will keep looking for what he wants - dummy alarms work just as well in these circumstances.
However! If it's the contents you wish to protect then other issues come into play like protecting the interior. Personally that's where I feel the real risk is and that is where I have additional real security.
My advice would be to have a Tracking system if your insurance insists on it.
If not the money would be best spent on an alarm system as that will help protect you as well as the motorhome.
With modern locks and immobilisers theft of newer vehicles is on the decline.
Very few are stolen and need recovering in comparison to how many are broken into.
Most tracking recoveries I am told are as a result of key theft.
A few things to consider when choosing an alarm system are, who makes it, who installs it? who is responsible when it goes wrong or you need spares, how much power does it have, is it suitable for the job intended and how many are out in the real world being used daily?
Any of these questions should be available from the fitting dealer and will help you make your mind up.
Our motorhome is parked next to the house and I can tell whenever AuntieSandra goes into it because she seldom checks to see if the Strikeback alarm is set!! It's quite a loud noise which brings our neighbours out!
One feature I DO like is the fact that there is one LED on the dash, a second on the rear bumper and a third on the front, under a headlight. We use our external silver screens most of the time, so the internal, dash-mounted LED is not visible. I'd like to think that the two external LEDs are sufficient to persuade evil persons to move to an easier target!
Based on Eddie VanBitz's reputation, we decided that it was worthwhile undertaking a 580 mile round trip to have the Strikeback fitted in Eddie's workshops, and enjoy a couple of nights on his excellent Cornish Farm Caravan Site near Taunton.
