Hi
I was talking to SVTECH this morning, re uprating the weight limits on my van, I was told what info was required to do this and was ready to proceed, but was put off by the fact they could not uprate the back axle limit as the van has an Alco chassis, so what benefit will it give me as most of the storage is to the rear, any thoughts on this please. Pete

My Chausson was on a Fiat chassis and they would uprate the MGW to 3700kg with no modifications and to 3850kg with air suspension fitted but in neither case would they uprate the axle limits. 3850kg would have been the sum of the individual axle limits and in my opinion it would be impossible to achieve that balance in practice. The air suspension in itself would have eaten into the rear axle load.
My main thought is:
Why do you want to uprate and will the upgrade enable you to achieve it?

Hi Ray
I think you are right, all I was thinking was if I was uprated to carry a bit extra it would be correct for when we travel to Spain in Feb, we do tend to load up for a longer stop, I will weight what we take and keep under what weight we can carry. Pete
Luckily my van is built on the Fiat maxi chassis and with air rides fitted we managed an increase on the axle. Same as you most of our storage is at the rear and with a long overhang it all adds to the weight..
From everything I have read here and elsewhere it looks like it's not possible with your Alko chassis and axle.
Good idea to load up, check your weights and know where you stand.

We were lucky when we had the uprate on our maxi chassis, not Alko.
Our rear axle weight was 2200kg and after the uprate is now 2300kg. Again AiRide enabled this.
Our gross was 3500kg and is now 4100kg
I can't remember what the front axle is and it's too wet to go outside to check.

Thank's for your replies, I think I will leave it alone and watch what we take . Pete
It can't be just because it's Alko. They were able to give us an extra 250kg on the rear and ours is Alko, Alan.
Hi Alan
They could raise the level overall but I was told because it's got an Alko chassis the axle rating would have to stay the same at 2000kg, so I will not bother with the uprating has most of the storage on the welcome 76 is in the rear locker and under the bed, so I dont think it's much benefit. Pete

Alan, I think they were saying that in this particular case as it is an alko chassis they cannnot fit air suspension, which may have allowed an increase in rear axle load. There are several variants of Alko chassis.
