I used 3 last year over 3 months and 5k miles and these were; T/T Garmin nuvi and Garmin Desl.
The latter does widths weight trailer etc for commercial vehicles.
The Desl worked the best with really sensible routes chosen apart from the last bits where it had to be whatever road led to the campsite.
Many other useful featurers on it as well. Garmin works for me.

It's like a Nikon vs Canon debate!

We have a TomTom Via Live 120 and have done 20,000 miles using it across Europe in the last 9mths. The Google Live search in many cases rules out the need for POI sets since as long as the business is listed on Google (and many now are) you can find it irrespective of the POI sets you have. It also gives live weather with 7 day forcast and traffic info across europe. It also speaks road, place and junction names rather then 'turn left' like the older TomTom's.

The Via has the 4Gb memory with the maps taking 2.5 leaving loads of room for POI's which usually take about 0.2mb at the most and an extra map such as Morocco.

The bluetooth hands free function works great with my Blackberry and the voice one touch and voice activated controls are a laugh!

We did have a problem last week where it froze, I e-mailed TomTom from my phone and was getting such speedy replies back from their head office in Amsterdam it was like I was chatting in real time. After a reset it has been fine.

We paid £150 9mths ago for ours. I would maybe try and Garmin next time to gain a more balanced view.

I've only used one, a TomTom 910. Does what it should and updated with all the free aires as POI. For us it does the job at a very reasonable price.

We have the Tom-tom 105 live and this year we toured though France, Switzerland Italy and Spain and the Tomtom never let us down once. We have never tried Garmin etc, so can't make a comparison with those
Mind you we take delivery of a new van in January which is a little longer than our present one so now thinking maybe we need the Snooper series any recommendations?
