At the prices I paid, two on the front driving wheels will do for now.
In an online article last week, Which Magazine stated the following:
"One member asked about the possibility of only fitting winter tyres on the drive wheels – in this case, the fronts. The answer is an emphatic ‘NO!’
When fitting any tyres (winter or summer) the ones with the most grip must always be fitted to the rear axle, whether this is the driven axle or not. Otherwise, if you have the least grip on your rear wheels, there’s a big risk that your car’s handling will become unstable in an emergency manoeuvre when you most need it to remain stable."
I don't know if the advice would be different where there are 3 axles but perhaps you should check it out, if you haven't already.
I advised my car insurance (Admiral) re my winter tyres and they had no problem with me fitting them - said that they had had a huge increase in the number of customers fitting them this year.
My husband advised his insurance (Kwik Fit/Express Insurance) re his winters and again he had no problem - they did say though that they must be fitted in accordance with the manufaturers instructions IE: winter tyres to both axles.
