Anyone tried one of those newfangled air-cooled stills you can get on eBay for about £160?
The idea is you can make your own 'vodka' (in countries where it's legal to do so...!) and then add "essences" to flavour it to the tipple of your choice.
I've tried the "special reserve scotch whisky" essence in shop-bought vodka, and was actually impressed. Very 'single malt'-ish.
But I'd like to know what's in it. - they say "Only the finest ingredients and essential oils", but what does that mean?
Any ideas?

My wife's cousin died from drinking home distilled hooch. (Made by someone else - not by herself. Shocked )

You need to understand and be very careful with fractional distillation to do it safely, so if you don't know what that means I would suggest you stick to Laphroaig!

If you have not yet sussed it, distilling alcohol for human consumption is illegal in the UK. To power your motorhome, now thats another question!

C.

P.S. And don,t pay £160 on Ebay, you can make the kit for about £25.00

They aren't illegal to own as they can be used to distill water for many purposes, essential oils and perfumes for the wife and fuel for the car.

I would never use mine to distill some of the finest cheapest spirits that you could drink as £3.50 a bottle.

Technically it is also illegal in the Uk to put a bottle of wine in the freezer for the same reasons.

Enforcement, rather like the air still mentioned in the op is a tad difficult Very Happy

In Sweden almost every other house has a still operating.
The results I have sampled certainly make you feel unwell or perhaps its the normal effect of alcohol.
Haven't we had rather a large fire and explosion in the UK recently caused by Poles brewing "Vodka", guaranteed to make you blind and drunk.

Fortunately I can't take much booze if I go for volume I spend most of the time peeing, if I drink Scotch ( my favourite, a malt) I fall over and sleep. So if I want to enjoy a party I stick to soft drinks.
