I like both here and SBMCC. They are totally different forums when it comes to style. Here its more laid back, albeit a little selfish at times.......why aren't you interested in the fact that I am sleeping in her for the next ten nights? You could have asked about the insulation qualities etc.

SBMCC is more down to earth, more factual, more technical, deeper into the subject, more serious about the subject. And of course its more about self build. Their AGM was one of the best weekends we have ever been on, so much fun and so informative.

My advice to anyone planning a self build is to set themselves targets. I never asked myself why as I was doing it, I just got on with it. I was balancing home life and business life and the self build. Sometimes my day would start at 5am and finish at 10pm, with constant work in between. But it was worth it

I think your comment "Here its more laid back" hits the mark for me, I'm known on here, and most have seen that I do have a contribution to make, not just asking questions then disappearing for 6 months until I have a problem, not to say I don't ask some daft questions sometimes.

As for your insulation, you've commented on it before I think, and I haven't looked at your van yet sorry, keep meaning to find the link.

On the whole I'd ask first on here, and if no one can help I'd go to SBMCC, if it's too difficult to work out myself

Kev_n_Liz,

Getting back to the topic of a 'Self Build', what size vehicle are you going for?

I've done three Volkswagens (1 T4 & 2 T5s of which my Avatar is the current one) up to now but these may be a bit small for you.

However if you think I can answer any questions please feel free to call me.

Rod

We need a fully equipped Motorhome so the smaller vans won't work for us, it needs to be at least a MWB, but we'll probable go for LWB Sprinter or LT35, failing that one of the Seval groups offerings, we even thought about the LDV Maxus, but not seen a single good report on them since there were introduced.

Largely it'll come down to price, condition and mileage.

A part converted van might come high on the list, if it's been done well.

And We'll be looking for a good spec, late model, accident damaged caravan to provide most of the materials for the build.

Favour the Sprinter over the LT35 because the VW still has a cam belt.

Did self builds a while back around 1975 amd 1987. Bedford CF, VW bay window and a 29 seater Duple Vista coach.

Does my DIY tow bar "improvement" count? Its at the tail end of the motorhome grounding thread.

Happy Christmas all.

Will continuing hiding up in my "shack" as mother-in-law (96) is now installed for the duration.

Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

We like others will be escaping with other motorhomers for the New year.

Thanks Clive, My fave too, except they always seem to be too narrow when looking at them, I need to get some interior dims for all of the vans, except I can't find them for the older models, just the new ones which are different now.

We'd love to get away, but our baby is sorned up on the drive now Sad Sad Sad until spring when hopefully it'll sell quickly, then we can get started on a new baby. Smile Smile Very Happy Very Happy
