Our vehicle battery is flat and we were meant to leave this morning to drive down to family. We have put the battery on charge using the option on the van ( Boxer Symbol) so how long must we wait before we can try to start the van.
Today of all days............................

I would think it will only be a trickel charge so some time I would think, can you not get some jump leads?
Your not in the AA or RAC?

That will depend on many things so just leave it as long as you can, at least an hour, and maybe arrange to have a jump start in reserve should the charger not be up to the job.

Also remember that the battery might be beyond taking a charge at all. How old is the battery and how long since it was used to start the van? Alan

Are you sure that switch is charging the starter battery and not the leisure battery in the back? I should think it'd be quicker to jump start it off another vehicle or by pushing it if there are a few of you then letting the alternator charge it up on the way.

Started a week ago, the vehicle is 3 years old. Tried jump starting but still nothing.
With CaravanGuard and they don't do Homestart ( news to us) which is why we are in this position.

If you've tried jumping it from a good battery on a running vehicle and it still won't go then its probably not the battery at fault.

Hi,

You say, "Tried jump starting and nothing" - is that nothing as in it didn't start, or nothing as in absolutely nothing happened? Did the engine show any sign of movement i.e. cranking, or is it completely dead? Are the battery connections sound? Does the starter motor turn at all? More information may help us to give better guidance.

Where are you - there may be someone near who could offer to help?

Regards,
John

If it is a battery problem and you ran it for a reasonable time when you started it last week an hour may do the trick.

Starting a vehicle just to run the engine without driving it is not a great idea, it needs a fair while to replace the power used in starting it and the charge rate may not be very high at tick over. Leaving an engine ticking over for prolonged periods is not good for it, better to take it for a run to keep everything right. Maybe you knew that.

Good luck and let us know how you get on, Alan.

Been charging for about 1 1/2 hours and have just checked the control panel and it is stating that the vehicle battery was Good then when straight to OK. Will give it another hour and if the panel says Good will give it a go !!

When " Nothing " was happening, we were only getting clicking noises from the dashboard area. Everything seems OK with connections but to be honest unless it was obvious we could miss something. Sorry, we aren't technical folks, just enjoy the experience of getting out in our van !!

PS the jump leads have one side of teeth missing on the clamp, we do get a connection ( we see small sparks when connecting) but I only have a small car which may not be man enough for the van. Just a thought

Yes its probably a combination of the small car battery and the poor connections on the jump leads meaning you can't pull enough current to the starter when trying to jump it.
