If she has such a deeply entrenched phobia ('cos that's what it sounds like) maybe it's doing her more harm than good to keep suffering the anxiety?

I would seriously suggest that she needs professional help. Repeated periods of fear and anxiety will only make things worse, and the proximity alarm may well be only a short term palliative . . . if it works at all. (If she really believes that scrotes can disable her existing, and obviously quite sophisticated alarms, she will soon begin to think they can do the same to a proximity system!)

Logical argument does not work with irrational fears.

Still worth pursuing the project, but don't be too hopeful of a quick fix for your friend.

Well you yourself describe their actions as ridiculous.

Some people just don't feel safe and there's nothing to be done about it. It's not their fault, it's just the way they're built.

I hate snow so would never consider taking up skiing as as pastime.
