Just bought my first van, a Murvi Meteor, as an experiment. I have never been a camper, but have hankered after a house on wheels since I was a child. I have a sceptical husband and 2 very excited small children (and 3 large dogs who are not going on the first trip - I don't think I could cope).
Any suggestions about what I am most likely to forget to take?

Hi Andrea. Welcome to this friendly group of people
What will you forget.
Don't know but there will almost certainly be something!
Advice.
Make a list. Check it with a friend who camps or caravans or has a motorhome
Don't go too far for your first trip. If the worst come to the worst you can always nip home for whatever it is. After all, the first time isn't so much for a holiday but learning how to live together in what is quite a small space.
Hello Andrea and welcome from Yorkshire. Nice to see another lady motorhomer posting.
When I first started camping, with children, I use to check/take everything that was used from getting up in a morning - soap, flannel, toothpaste, toothbrush, clothes, cups, dishes, cereal, milk, tea/coffee, sugar to start the day. Once the children are fed and you have had your first cuppa the rest will look after itself. Have fun and don't worry. Don't forget the gas, electric cable and sleeping bags/quilts.
Another way to check if you have every thing you need is to spend the first night camping in the drive!! Just as exciting for young children as going to a campsite and without the worry of forgetting something.

I'm with banjo, 'course you have to remember the wine - and chocolate.
and easy food - [eg french bread,] and food to keep the kids and dogs quiet, and at least one change of clothes just in case.
Nuke started a thread somewhere - 'what equipment you can't do without!'
in General - Chitchat

have a look at that and see what looks right for you, and stay somewhere close to home or on a site near town or with a shop, just in case.
once you get into it you'll probably find that most basics stay with the van and you just top up with fresh food and change of clothes.
enjoy
