I have been told from a very reliable source that Pioneer are introducing a new Sat Nav System that can be added to the AVH media system, The new system will have the ability to enter height weight axles width etc.
What I like about the Pioneer system is that it is very simple to add points of interest from Google Earth and CSV files amongst others.
Has anyone used the Pioneer system at all? and if so is it as user friendly as it appears?.
The reason I am interested is that I have a Double Din Pioneer AVH 3300BT in my MH and also in my Toad and if it is as good as it appears I will certainly get one to try out.
Obviously you won't have used the new system but it is based on the existing system.

I too have Pioneer satnag system in my Hymer, and whilst I have got to grips with most of the functions I much prefer the Garmin system, as I like to sit at my laptop, plan routes and upload to the main unit as I do on my other big boy toy (BMW m'bike). I am not aware that you can do this with the Pioneer system.
I have contacted the help desk at Pioneer, but they knew less than I did!!
Maybe I should spend more time investigating, but I hate pdf user manuals, perhaps I should print it all out and read it!
Looking forward to reading the responses to this topic.
Anybody out there who could run an idiots hands on guide to the more intricate parts to Pioneer satnag?

The Pioneer unit on my new Hymer can't take decimal co-ords which is criminal in a modern sat nav.

I know you can enter co-ordinates on the AVIC F220 which is the one I am interested in BUT with the latest updated firmware.
There is also the ability to use KML files etc, But I want to know if there are KML files on with POI's on does the System search these, i.e. if I had all the ACSI sites on as KML files on My SD card and got to say Paris could I search for nearest site to my location.????

Hi Les, we are fitting loads of the new Pioneer App Radio. Is this what you mean? The concept is that you simply plug your iPhone in when you get into the vehicle and everything is done from that.
At the moment Pioneer are registering loads of Apps and they are bringing out their own Navi programme to be used on the iPhone, which in turn is used for the App Radio
I don't tend to keep too much abreast of Pioneer as James in our sales office is very keen so I simply ask or listen to his updates!
Sells for about £399 installed and the Pioneer reversing camera can be added

Happy New Year

Hi Eddie, Happy new year mate.
No I have a Pioneer AVH 3300BT entertainment system fitted which the iPhone etc connects to but there is also a Sat Nav system that is available called the AVIC F220 <AVIC F220> it is an add on unit to the Bigger systems, I have been informed that they are adding to it (By some means) a size facility i.e. Truck type sizes etc, I understand it is to be called something like "AVIC F220 Camp", They also have the "Navgate" system which enables you to communicate with the system and add your own POI's from various other means including Google Earth onto an SD card, we all know that if it is located on Google earth then it is extremely close in proximity, there are other facilities but that was the main one I was looking at and I understand that many many POI files can be included.

We have an AVIC-X3 SatNav and multimedia system in our Motorhome which we use to listen to Ipod and play DVDs on the main television. It also has Bluetooth for mobile phones. Whilst most of the multimedia features are excellent the Sat Nav is not brilliant. Our main complaint is the really late notification of turn-offs, particularly when you are steaming along a motorway. The other unsatisfactory feature is its insistence you enter a street name as well as the city name, frustrating if it cannot find the street address you have. You cannot enter Lat/Long either. As a result we carry a cheap Garmin as backup which goes on the scooter when needed. !!
Would be interested to know if these drawbacks have been addressed in later models.

Hi Mate, I cannot state categorically BUT according to the instructions of the AVIC F220 you CAN enter Lat / Long You don't need to enter a full address, But as I say I don't know definitely as I don't have one and not seen one working.

Hi Les, I'll speak to the powers that be at Pioneer tomorrow and get it from the horses mouth.
Most Pioneer systems have had some Apple connectivity for several years. The new App Radio is Pioneers first unit designed for the iPhone so there is no DVD player, no MP3 nothing except a tuner.
Their latest navigation operating system has been written specifically for the iPhone (not the Andriod cheapskates lol )
I have a Pioneer F910BT system in the Smart. As an entertainment system playing via iPhone/iPod it is superb both music and video/film. As a navigation device to get from A-B it is ok. It does have some strange routes, but don't they all!
As far as POI's built in (1.7 million of them) It is COMPLETE RUBBISH
If I want to find my nearest supermarket ( I live in Somerset) it says my nearest is in France, Auchan in Calais to be precise. My nearest Chemist is in Scotland, Doctors either in Ireland or Jersey. My nearest Tesco is in Southern Ireland. Whilst parked on a Park n'Ride in Exeter (there are 2 in Exeter) my nearest was in Plymouth.
However, if I want a POI at the point of destination and as long as that destination was in Europe (NOT in UK) then I could find any of the above categories within a few kilometers. The unit is just not fit for use in the UK. Before anyone buys a Pioneer sat nav check out the POI database is UK friendly. Tele-atlas who provide Pioneer with the mapping and POI database tell me that Pioneer did not specify a UK POI database. I have been in lengthy discussions with Mercedes Benz about the "not fit for purpose" (my contract is with MB not Pioneer as it was a factory fitted unit) and we are now at legal proceedings stage.
