Yes I have tried this. They have either gone out of business, moved, or don't stock propane.

I'm afraid that the Calor Gas website of stockists is dreadfully inaccurate.

I did call and let them know, but they weren't interested.

Agree with the Go Outdoors, But was the only thing we tended to buy. Never seen cheaper Calor and if you buy other products, may be worth the subscription.

Can't beat the tanks or refillable bottles though.

That is why we did a second conversion to refillable bottles.

Heather

Only just seen your thread.

Calor Gas td.
Unit 10
Delta Business Park
10 Smugglers Way SW18 1EG

I went the route of a Gaslow cylinder but retained the Calor as a back-up.I endorse everything that has been said about convenience.

As you said yourself it is not a huge price and you can move it to another MH.

There is no problem with LPG supply, except maybe Spain. Even Slovakia, which had only 30 stations 3 years ago, now has plenty.

When you are half empty and see a station just fill up. No worries about crossing country boundaries and having to change to local cylinders or find a re-filling station for Calor cylinder.

It may not be the nearest to you, but the Shell station on Ebury St., just behind Victoria Coach Sta has LPG.

Go for Gaslow ( or similar) is my advice.

I'm taken with the Gaslow idea, after all of your comments.

Trouble is, I've called Gaslow to find out who can fit one, and there no dealers in London at all, and I've started to call caravan places in Surrey etc, and they don't fit them either.

What kind of places did you guys go to to get your Gaslow cylinder fitted up and the hole put in the door?

Hole in the door Heather?? Surprised

I suggest you read the comments again, since nobody recommends putting the hole in the door. It is strongly discouraged by Gaslow as being potentially dangerous.

I think you would be very happy with a Gaslow bottle if you are having trouble finding Calor replacements. It's dead easy to top up at a good selection of garages throughout this country and abroad.

One bottle or two?? If you can only get 6kg bottles in I would suggest two. If you can get an 11kg bottle in I don't think a second one is necessary - just keep an eye on the gauge and top up when it shows half full.

If you go to any of the major shows there's usually a Gaslow stand there where they will install a system for you there and then. Be a bit cautious though, since (in my experience) they do rather encourage you to buy more than you really need - hence my suggestion above. (They are a franchised dealer - not Gaslow themselves.)

It's here in their downloadable brochure - they show the hole in the door, and how you fill it through the hole in the door - and they put a warning which says that if you don't have a hole in the door and have to open the locker door to fill it, some garages won't let you refill.

OK Heather. Smile

Have it your way Rolling Eyes . . . but please explain why, in their fitting instructions, they give a dire warning against installing the filler on the door!!

Please read the pdf file and see the image below. Seems clear enough to me!! Shocked

As a point of information, we had our system superbly fitted at the Shepton Show when it was -9C - so it was welcome to say the least.....

Then came the "discussion" about filling in France and having to open the locker door to access the filling point.

We were at the (small) Exeter show and a Gaslow franchised company were there and they fitted an external filler point in the skirt. Carefully done and VERY neatly installed.

As a system it is superb - the Swift locker is not over-roomy (in fact downright small! Laughing ) but they squeezed in the requested 2 x 6kg cylinders. We have the auto changeover valve but only turn one cylinder on at a time so that we know when we are half-way through the available gas. (We do that since we ran out completely at the C&CC site near Wrexham when it was bitterly cold and we had started with less than full cylinders)

The system is great for us - we are just waiting to find out the response of DREAR to such things as we re-register in France - they exist in France so SHOULD be OK and we have an international certificate of conformity which was accepted by a dealer in France who did some work for us on the system.

Just some thoughts from one who has been there, read the book, seen the film (well youtube), and met the stars - Gaslow themselves!

Go for it, you will not regret it - my back is VERY much happier as I no longer have to bend, twist AND lift all at the same time to get Calor cylinders into an awkward locker.......
