I would have thought that you might be able to find an secondhand "Easylifter Scooter/motorcycle rack " but be careful Racks are not light and with a scooter on the back you can soon overload your rear axle(S) and rack fixing point(s)

Don't know about racks but I seem to remember that car tow bars have to be CE certified or something like that if the vehicle is newer than a certain year.

If you are a member of AA, RAC, CClub or CCClub maybe they can help with legal issue.

I will be looking for someone to build me one of these soon. We have a guy on another forum that has built himself one, but he is in Ireland.

Been to weighbridge with full touring setup and still have 340kg on rear axles & 160kg on front out of 1200, but I was thinking about building a bespoke rack.

Got the calculations done from Watling and I am well within the limits.

So here is a few of my ideas for the rack.
1. A light weight aluminium back (would that stop a lot of the muck getting on the scooter?)
2. plastic pipe tubes to put some of the lightweight aluminium awning rafters and wind breaks (they currently have a spot on the back wall of the garage but are in the way.)
3. I have a factory fitted tow rack but will beef that up with additional struts onto the chassis.

I had the lads at an Engineering company i worked at build me a rack
Made out of Stainless Steel and weighs around 45KG Surprised
Cost £0 Wink
Luckily I had plenty of payload and axle load weight spare

The only concern I would have with the rack above is the flex you will get from the box section going to the mounting position on the vehicle

The rack I had made had to have additional fixings to the van at either sides, in addition to the centre fixing

RR, is this proposed rack to fit to an existant tow bar or a rack to be fitted to the chassis?

If you take it off the chassis, it'll be stronger and no outlay for a special towbar.
