...visiting several countries??

We are looking at France/Spain/Portugal/Italy/Germany

I dont want to spend thousands and only need occasional use - like coming on here.

Is it possible to buy a dongle at the start of the trip that covers most of the above and then bin it at the end??

Cheers
Paul

I'm hoping a 3G keyboard Kindle will do just that for free.

In Spain, France & Netherlands you may well come across Delfynet as campsite WiFi for a fee...
If you just want to read emails etc, don't buy a password and you will find they give you 10 minutes for a free trial everyday!
In Spain, you can get a Carrefour sim for a dongle which gets you 100Mb a day for €1. Not available in France AFAIK!
Morocco dongles are unlimited uage so a better deal but slower than most EU ones.

Very simple.

1.) A smart phone (or a small tablet phone - like Galaxy Tab) with 'Vodafone Data Traveller'. Gives you 25MB of data usage every day for every country in Europe. Used it for 9 months in 18 countries and only once gone over the limit. Using it to write this post right now.

More info: www.europebycamper.com/2011/06/guide-to-vodafone-data-traveller-data_01.html

2.) A long range Wifi antenna will increase your chances of picking up Wifi when you need it. Admittedly this will be rarer in France and Germany, but other countries are easier. This will also come into play when visiting campsites.

More info: www.europebycamper.com/2011/04/wi-fi-access-in-europe.html

The alternatives are messing about with local sim cards / dongles and so forth. I run my business online and I've not once struggled to get online thanks to the above.

There is no pan-european dongle options.

Kindle has no ongoing charges. They offer free internet access but it is very slow in use and a bit hit and miss in rural France.

£149 and (so it seems) the 3G charges are paid/covered by Amazon. It clearly states there is no charge to the user anywhere.

Data traveller is available for £10/mth on all Vodafone contracts. That includes sim-only 30-day and 12 month as well as those including a phone.

You can also get upto £150 Quidco (www.quidco.com/vodafone) essentially making a £15.50/mth tariff £6.50/mth so when you add the £10 data traveller option for those months abroad Qudico makes it 'free'.

Then of course you get the included minutes, texts and internet usage back home for you £6.50.

Follow the link in my original post and all will be revealed Smile
