I have a new laptop and it doesn't have outlook on, so what is the best free program to use for Email?
Hi
It may be worth your while looking at windows live mail, it's the free microsoft replacement for the likes of outlook express, but a separate download.
It cannot pick up my mail from my old Sky account. I have to log on to Sky to check my mail. Is it me or can Live Mail not be set up for a sky.com email account?
If not, I will try Thunderbird. Thanks for the info.

It should be able to as windows mail supports and implements the necessary protocols for mail transfer, theoretically sky shouldn't care or know about the client as it's the protocols that count, however sky may have placed an obstacle in the way or the settings may be incorrect.

The connection to the incoming mail server is failing because you don't have SSL enabled and the port number should be 995, full details at the link below;
Am i correct in assuming that you can send okay, as the error message only relates to incoming email.
Have you enabled POP access on your sky account, there are instruction linked to below that cover enabling it, follow the link then click "Enable POP3/IMAP on your sky email account" to see the instructions.
Well, I finally got sorted out and my mail from Sky is being transferred.
What had been the problem was a setting in Accounts/Properties/Server. When I used the setting 'Log on using clear text authentication', it worked fine.
Even though I clear the Sky server out regularly, I have over 120 emails to sort and delete.
A job for tomorrow I think.
Thanks again, I would never have sussed it on my own.
