On our Adria Twin we have an 11kg Gaslow and a Calor propane 6kg as a backup which hasn't been needed since last year as we always manage to top up before the Gaslow is empty. We have kept a record of when we refill and look for an Autogas station after about 17 days use. The most we've needed to top up the Gaslow is 15 litres
There is still room in the locker for ramps and it amazes us how much we store under the bed, like Addie we have divided the space with plastic boxes accessible from the inside. I even nmanaged to fit our spare 25 litre rollalong water tank in the back.

Have a look at our 'webpage' - under photo's . . theres 6 pic's of the LPG tank we had fitted by Autogas 2000 in Cheshire 3 or so years ago

Filling your tank at the local garage means you pay much more VAT than bottled gas.
Yes but even with the VAT, the price of LPG from a petrol station is c£0.75 a litre.
A 7kg calor refill is over £21, making it more than £1.50 a litre, ie about twice the price.
I agree it can be more expensive in small bottles, but I'd only fill at a garage as a last resort
I fill my 60ltr tank at a local yard who supply the gas for taxis as well as bottled gas, but he tells me that he records the gas he sells to me as 'domestic' (or some such) and I get it at a reduced rate, my last fill was 59p ltr. I also buy 47kg bottles of propane for £55 -thats less than 58p ltr, I bought one yesterday.

a) The underfloor tank in our Murvi was a poor investment money wise but gives us an extra cupboard
b) At £4 first year, £5 second year I'm happy to pay for the convenience of taxed gas from a petrol station.
(We have diesel heating - even using that doesn't affect our 30mpg noticeably at the cold ends of the season - but the van is tcked away for three months November-February)
thanks for the link rowley, I hadn't seen that website.

When I go over to the van at the weekend I'll take some photos of the fitting if it's of any use to you.
Thanks for the offer Al but no need to go to the trouble of photo's, there's plenty in the links from other posters.

Ideally you need record your current usage to give you an idea of the required tank size.
I'm new to all this Bill, so I don't really know how much I will be using but thanks for the info.

Over the last 280 days touring europe 95% wild camping our average for gas usage is 1 litre per day using the fridge on gas and hot showers every day plus a bit of heating too so based on that we top up every month.
Thanks for that Addie, a fairly good guide to usage and tank size required.

Have a look at the article on "Our bolero" where I detail how I fitted mine.
Otherwise click on the www link at the bottom of this post. More pictures there...
Nicely done oilslick, very helpful, thanks.
